McIntosh MX121, MX151 Control Centers Debut

McIntosh Laboratory is ready to rock a little bit harder. McIntosh has debuted two AV Control Centers, the MX121 and the MX151. Both are designed to be the hub of home entertainment setups, offering features such as built-in Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, Dual Zone operation, and the option to play 2-channel sources in stereo or up to 7.1 surround sound. Renowned audio manufacturer McIntosh Laboratory took a long, strange trip to get to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Jim Marshall, the Father of Loud, Dies at 88

Jim Marshall, the founder of Marshall Amplification and one of the pillars of the music industry, has died. He was 88. Marshall started Marshall Amplification in 1960 and it quickly caught on with rock music's elite, including Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. Marshall's fame grew over the years through the launch of several now legendary series of products such as the JTM, JMP and JCM. Two heavy-hitters in the high-end audio market are leaving the business. Ken Dawkins, VP North American Sales for Thiel Audio, is leaving the company after more than 11 years. Thiel is a maker of high-end loudspeakers and audio components. McIntosh Opens 2 Experience Centers

McIntosh has unlocked the doors to two upscale Experience Centers, one in San Jose, Calif. at Century Stereo and one at IQ Home Entertainment in Fairfax, Va. McIntosh products that will be on display include the "Manhattan" (MXA60) home audio system, the “Westchester,” home theater collection with MX150 AV processor, and the "Soho" collection, a two channel system solution that combines the MT10 turntable with a high performance preamplifier and loudspeakers. It’s been a rough couple of months for independent A/V reps. Now CE Pro has learned from several sources that D&M subsidiary McIntosh Labs is issuing pink slips to most of its reps. Roughly five [update: exactly eight ] existing reps will continue with the line of high-end audio components, while the others will be replaced by factory-direct representation, sources say.
