3D has played a starring role at electronics tradeshows the past two years, and should again during CEDIA Expo 2011 in Indianapolis. The wrinkle we're likely to see this year is more evidence of how 3D is maturing. Up first: LG's 55LW9800 Nano Full LED 3D TV. LG is debuting the model at CEDIA, showcasing not only passive 3D - which has gained momentum since the active 3D format made the initial splash - but THX certification. That makes the Nano Full LED the first passive 3D TV to receive… View this story

Professional Audio Associates (PAA) really knows how to throw a party. The New England distributor hosted its fourth annual open house on June 22 to the delight of hundreds of local integrators who stopped by throughout the day for show specials from over 30 vendors. Integrators from across the West Coast recently traveled to the DSI Expo in Costa Mesa, Calif., to get a glimpse at the latest innovations in connected TVs. Demos and training from LG, Toshiba, Sony and Mitsubishi showcased 3D cinema and smart TV opportunities for dealers, many of whom came from satellite installation backgrounds. "This is the third year we have done the Expo series. It's important for local integrators who are not part of buying groups to be able to get the education they need," says Meg Berg of DSI… View this story

Competition in the 3D TV market is heating up with LG Electronics reportedly trying to overtake Samsung. LG is talking with Sony, according to Reuters, in an effort to supply Sony with 3D LCD TV panels. Reuters says LG and Samsung have been bickering since LG introduced a 3D technology called film patterned retarder (FPR) as a means of taking a bite out of Samsung's 60 percent 3D TV market share. "We've explained FPR technology to our major customers," LG Display CEO Kwon Young-soo told Reuters. "Sony is one of… View this story
