With a legion of copycat products and frenzied enthusiasts, Apple's iPad 2 has revolutionized the way people compute, read and entertain themselves. The newly introduced LaunchPort from iPort, is the San Clemente, California-based company's latest solution to help homeowners integrate their iPad 2s into their daily activities without disrupting their normal routines. The iPad has revolutionized touchscreen controls for A/V and automation systems. But how can manufacturers revolutionize the way custom installers implement the iPad into their projects? Dana Innovations, parent of Sonance, Trufig and iPort, addressed this at CEDIA Expo 2011 with its new iPort LaunchPort system. Through its design-friendly offerings from all three companies, Dana Innovations is used to being at the forefront of technology that combines high aesthetic appeal with performance and versatility, and the LaunchPort continues that forward thinking. LaunchPort allows installers to dock and wirelessly charge an… View this story

Manufacturers are rushing to get in-wall iPad docks to market, but so far we haven't seen much. We've seen tabletop docs for iPad, and we've seen in-wall stations for the iPod. We've also seen the slick iPad in-wall from Savant. Now we finally have a picture of the forthcoming CM2000 in-wall iPad dock from iPort. Keith Rose of Inspired Electronics, Palatine, Ill., posted the above photo on RemoteCentral.com. He says, "The iPad looks really cool in the wall. Very flush, paintable bezel, solid construction. They did a nice job on… View this story

iPort announced recently that it is now shipping the Control Mount Series (CMS) of in-wall docks for the iPod and iPad (CM100 and CM200, respectively). The products feature a mounting bracket and magnetic faceplate with a “home” button at the bottom and “power” button at the top. The home button is easy – it lies directly on top of the corresponding button on the iPad/iPod. The power button, however, is another story. On the iPad/iPod, the button lies flush on the top of the bezel. So how do you press… View this story

iPort is now shipping its new Control Mount Series for the Apple iPod touch and iPad. Both products are targeted at the custom installation market. (Update: iPort now explains that the product will ship "later this month in limited quantities." More details in the "Comments" section below.) The iPort CM-IW100T (CM100) Control Mount encases an iPod touch in a wall-mounted chassis with a magnetically attached, rectangular fascia, as does the iPort CM-IW2000 (CM2000) for the iPad, transforming the handheld devices into in-wall touchscreens running control apps over WiFi. The CM100… View this story

Whether it's iPhones, iPads or iPod Touches, Apple, Inc., is selling millions of these products each quarter and the public's appetite for Apple gear remains as strong as it's ever been. Integrators awaiting an in-wall iPad docking station might have to keep waiting. In an exclusive interview with CE Pro, Sonance CEO Ari Supran says the company's 2009 patent for its iPort product line of in-wall iPod docking systems also covers in-wall iPad docking systems. Patent No. 7,493,142, filed on October 23, 2006 and granted on February 17, 2009 is for: “A wall mountable audio device connector dock for connecting handheld audio devices to a remote audio system, the connector dock comprising: a body portion extendable within the wall; a mounting… View this story

Consumers always seem to ask: Why do I need an expensive touchscreen for home automation when I control the house through an iPhone or iPod Touch? Two reasons: The iPod products don’t work as quickly and effectively as dedicated touchscreens and you can’t mount them nicely in a wall. iPort, at least, is solving problem No. 2 with the forthcoming Control Dock, a prototype of which was shown in the Control4 partner pavilion during CES 2010. Unlike other in-wall/on-wall docking stations, this one mounts your iPod for good. Also, it… View this story
