CEDIA and its CEO Utz Baldwin are parting ways, the organization announced today (press release below). Baldwin's appointment three years ago was a first for CEDIA, which previously had no CEO position. The organization is changing its structure and has not indicated that it would replace Baldwin. Instead, CEDIA COO Don Gilpin will assume a more active role under the direction of the Board of Directors. RELATED: CEDIA Selects Utz Baldwin as CEO (11/2008) CEDIA chairman Randy Stearns stated, "CEDIA would like to thank Utz for his contributions as CEO,…

8 Manliest Products at CEDIA Expo
Jason Knott | 10/14 08:41 AM,

What constitutes a manly product?
Automatically, anything with a touchscreen does not qualify. No elegant design, no wood finishes, no sleek curved lines. Nope. The bigger, badder, not so pretty, and stranger, the better.
It has to be a product that Clint Eastwood and John Wayne would want, and it has to appeal to the couch potato-type guy.
Here is our list from the CEDIA Expo 2011.

What did we miss? Did we get the potential buyers incorrect?

Audio Authority recently concluded its Fall 2011 Dealer Survey started during CEDIA Expo 2011. The survey was designed to solicit opinions from custom integrators about inventory procurement practices and preferences. As an incentive an iPad2 was to be awarded to one lucky survey participant. Audio Authority is thrilled to announce that Andy Penry, manager of Look and Listen located in Mobile, Ala., is the winner of the iPad2. Penry has been the manager at Look and Listen for the past nine years, which is the only specialty integrator with a…

Editor’s Picks: Top Products of CEDIA Expo 2011
Robert Archer | 09/16 08:43 AM,

I didn’t quite know what to expect going into CEDIA Expo 2011. It was as if Bill Belichick's "Patriot Way" of silence overtook the industry. But the show delivered a slew of products and trends that will help CE pros meet current market demands. Audio trends included the dichotomy of vinyl and digital audio sources, as well as the adoption of compact bookshelf speakers, active electronics and colorful gloss finishes. Despite its detractors, many manufacturers featured new 3D products. The good news is the price of 3D products in the…

11 Awesome Projectors at CEDIA Expo 2011
Grant Clauser | 09/14 07:12 AM,

CES may be a gadget-lover’s dream, but CEDIA Expo is the golden ticket for the best home theater gear. There were two new(ish) trends in home theater projectors at CEDIA Expo 2011. The first was 4K, which several companies made a point to show off. A 4K resolution was previously reserved from professional projectors to be used with huge screens, but now your clients can get a projector that throw 4096 x 2160 pixels on their basement theater screen. The only problem is they won't find 4K material to watch.…

Manufacturers Getting More Creative with 3D Demos
Arlen Schweiger | 09/12 08:48 AM,
2 Comments
The art of the video demo has always been a tricky endeavor at CEDIA Expo. It's easy for display manufacturers to play it safe and go with the big hit that everyone else is showing. And that way, there's even more of a baseline for integrator attendees to compare projectors and TVs. It was also easy to predict which DVD or Blu-ray movies would be the demo trend-setters every year. The latest Pixar release was always an odds-on favorite for seeing the same clip over and over (I can't even…
