DPL Laboratories, Inc., a digital testing laboratory specializing in the performance assessment of digital signaling solutions has announced that it has issued its first “Full 4K HDR 18Gbps HDBaseT Category Cable Seal of Approval” to Transformative Engineering for its product, the HD-4K.
Jeff Boccaccio, president of DPL Laboratories, points out that in most situations extender devices have not tested well in his company's facilities.
“Running HDBaseT extenders through our testing process just about always yields some disappointing anomaly. The Transformative Engineering HD-4K was no different except the anomaly turned out to be a superb performance level when pushed to its max distances with CED [Character Error Detection],” he states.
“After 36 hours of run time, the system registered zero errors for all three TMDS channels. We have experienced short Fiber Cables that have generated as many as 200 errors over 10 minutes. This just means the HD-4K is doing a great job in the conversion process and output control. CED is one of the new features with HDMI Rev 2.0 where some active components have not fared very well. Copper is far from being extinct.”
Transformative Engineering Extender Passes 4K at 60Hz
Jay Trieber, president of Transformative Engineering, and president of Home Theater Concepts in Norwood, Mass., notes the company is pleased that its latest product met the demands of DPL Labs.
“We are exceedingly proud to merit the first DPL Seal of Approval for our 4K HDR 18 Gbps HDBaseT over Category Cable HMDI extender,” he says.
“It is very exciting to gain the recognition of Jeff’s prestigious DPL laboratory. We all know DPL’s Approval is only awarded to HDMI equipment that tests to extremely high and rigorous standards. All of our products are designed here in Norwood, for custom installers, by custom installers.”
The HD-4K has been available to integrators for about a year, but required a special set of procedures to ensure its 4K testing was accurate.
“DPL Labs had to design and build customized test fixtures allowing a portion of their Tektronix test equipment to run DPL’s 'Augmentative Matrix Analysis,' the nucleus to DPL’s rigid testing process,” adds Trieber.
Specifications for the HD-4K include 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 w/HDR HDBaseT over category cable, and compatibility with the maximum HDMI 2.0 specification of 18Gbps data throughput.
The HD-4K is also HDCP2.2 compliant and compatible with all legacy HDCP specifications for HDMI.
According to Transformative Engineering, the HD-4K extends UltraHD 4K, HDR, HDMI, IR (Bi-Directional), and RS-232 up to 60 meters (200 feet). Lower resolutions such as 1080p and standard definition (SD) can achieve greater distances.
