Serious Materials Offers First THX-Certified Door
QuietHome Door features STC rating of 44 and reduces noise about 85 percent.
Serious Materials has introduced the world’s first THX-Certified soundproof door — the QuietHome.
The entry-level QuietHome features an STC rating of 44 and is 1.75-inches thick. It can provide an STC rating of 51 in a 2.25-inch thick door.
Typical hollow-core doors have an STC rating of 15 and solid-core doors about 27, according to Serious Materials.
QuietHome, according to the company, reduces noise about 65 percent to 85 percent compared to a solid-core door.
“At THX, we believe great sound and picture is achieved through the right mix of audio-video components, room design, sound isolation and acoustic performance,” says John Dahl, director of education at THX.
“For maximum enjoyment of your favorite movies and music, you have to keep the noise out and the sound in.
Two QuietHome Doors may be used back to back for a total STC rating of over 80.
QuietHome doors range from $1,495 to $2,495 and are available to order now. The doors will ship in Q4.
