Focal’s Revamped Bathys MG Adds Magnesium Drivers for a Luxury Listening Experience

Focal says the Bathys MG headphones will carry an MSRP of $1,299. The headphones will be available in May 2025.

Focal has introduced its Bathys MG, a revamp of the original Bathys headphones with additional luxury features like magnesium drivers and upgraded active noise cancelling (ANC) technology.

The Bathys MG is part of Focal’s range of high-end headphones and, according to the company, were ultimately inspired by the Clear MG—a product that it says is the benchmark hi-fi headphones for the home the headphones feature a chestnut finish that is enhanced by a backlit logo that adds a modern signature.

Magnesium and Aluminum Help Bathys MG Sound Better & Feel Lighter

The Bathys MG is fitted with magnesium speaker drivers with “M”-shaped domes, manufactured in France by the company. Focal boasts that its new headphones deliver high-fidelity sound that is rich, natural and precise, with powerful bass and crystal-clear treble.

Focal points out that its engineers have also incorporated new microphones with optimized active noise cancelling, for better soundproofing of voices and perfect control over the environment through the elimination of unwanted background noise. USB-DAC mode delivers high-resolution sound at up to 24 bits/192kHz.

The Bathys MG also uses premium materials such as aluminum and magnesium in the yoke that provides a combination of lightness and robustness. The genuine leather headband and ergonomic foam earpads support comfort for an extended, compromise-free listening experience.

Added EQ Options Aim to Provide Better Sound

The Bathys MG delivers up to 30 hours of battery life in wireless mode, 35 hours in jack mode and 42 hours in USB-DAC mode. Focal says the headphones’ fast-charge function offers an extra five hours of listening time in just 15 minutes. The headphones also features Bluetooth 5.2 wireless technologies.

In addition, the Focal & Naim application is designed to make the Bathys MG headphones easy to control. With the app the company explains, users can adjust the sound to their liking using the app’s equalization (EQ) options with predefined or personalized parameters to suit the listening environment. The app also allows users to implement the active noise-cancelling option via “silent,” “soft” or “transparent” modes. Lastly, the app offers a hearing test that adjusts sound rendering to the individual user.

At release the new Bathys MG headphone have an MSRP of $1,299. For comparison, the original Bathys headphone has an MSRP of $699.
