Immersive Private Cinema in Florida Evokes Calming, Deep Sea Aesthetics

Evoking pristine Floridian waters, Maxicon creates a captivating private cinema on the 2nd floor of this Miami abode.

The Deep Sea Immersion Home Cinema project is a bespoke 8-seat home theater designed to transport viewers into an underwater getaway. Located on the second floor of a Florida home, the immersive private cinema was developed by Maxicon under the constraints of a rather unorthodox room layout.

“The shape of the room that already existed was odd, and we had to figure out a way to place the back speakers correctly and merge them with the acoustics,” describes Moises Kornbluth, Sales Rep and Marketing Assistant for Maxicon.

“Same with the height, which was not adequate for a dedicated cinema. The height was about 15 feet, and the client did not want to reduce it, presenting another layer of difficulty in achieving optimal acoustics and visual alignment.”

The client also wished to have a bar located at the back of the theater, presenting additional challenges when trying to accommodate a centralized equipment rack as well.

Acoustics Overcome Spatial Hurdles of Private Cinema

Addressing the issue of acoustics first for this private cinema, Maxicon leveraged advanced signal processing techniques to optimize low-frequency performance in the spacious area.

Carefully selected acoustic treatments were used to further shore up the room’s acoustics while also playing into the deep-sea aesthetic alongside custom carpeting and lighting.

Running around the outside of the theater, recessed linear lights provide an understated blue glow that shimmers across the room’s surfaces. Wave patterns on the rug also provide aquatic elements that seem to float like kelp across the room’s floor.

Overhead, a starry ceiling provides additional ambience with a unique twist. Instead of representing the star-filled skies above, now moviegoers are treated to visuals of marine snow drifting overhead.

The system itself employs an Anthem AVM 90 preamp/processor alongside AudioControl Savoy G4 amplifiers which drive Triad InWall Gold and Silver speakers for immersive audio experience. Paired with larger-than-standard subwoofers provided by Buttkicker tactile audio systems, Maxicon describes the experience as one that can be felt as well as heard.

For visuals, a Sony VPL-XW7000ES 4K HDR projector and Seymour Screen Excellence Reference Fixed Frame screen are paired for an all-encompassing image. A Kaleidescape Terra Movie Server is also used for media storage, while custom video processing delivers a “pristine cinematic experience.”
