Matter Takes Another Step into Pro Channel Through Legrand’s New radiant Line

Incorporating the standard into its devices, Legrand claims they’ll be easier to setup, control, and retain wireless functionality even during Wi-Fi outages.

Legrand has introduced its second-generation radiant Smart Lighting with Wi-Fi, with the newest edition now fully Matter-enabled.

Every device in the new lineup supports Matter, meaning systems from different brands can interact smoothly across platforms like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, and Samsung SmartThings—without reliance on plugins or proprietary bridges.

Matter Adds Simple Onboarding, Automations to radiant Line

According to Legrand, each radiant product will include a unique Matter QR code for simplified setup (via a Matter-compatible hub). Once connected, the devices will be able to retain local control even without internet access, meaning they’ll still be operable even if the home’s Wi-Fi network goes down.

Users will also be able to create automation routines for simple lighting control, energy savings and even security, such as automating lights to shut on or off based on time of day and/or occupancy.

As a bonus, the new features will also mirror the aesthetics of non-connected radiant devices, allowing the two to be mixed on projects without disrupting the uniformity of design.

Expanding Interoperability of Legrand Devices

Legrand’s inclusion of Matter aims to extend its radiant compatibility beyond traditional lighting ecosystems at a time when other manufacturers are seeking to increase compatibility between devices, often spilling over into what are commonly viewed as “consumer-grade” ecosystems.

While integrations with Google Home and Amazon Alexa have been commonplace since their introduction into the market, more recently CE Pro has seen major manufacturers of professional-grade smart home systems like Snap One extending compatibility of its system into the notoriously siloed Apple HomeKit.

Coincidentally, Apple itself expressed interest earlier this year in participating with Matter’s “Works With” program to ensure its smart home products will be Matter-compatible moving forward.

Matter’s Evolution into a Noteworthy Ecosystem

Much of this may have to do with the evolution of Matter as a standard over the years.

Despite promising a utopia of smart home interoperability, security, and uninterruptible service, Matter’s initial launch left much to be desired in the eyes of critics and advocates alike. Interoperability was a major sticking point for many.

Since then, however, Matter has seen many improvements to its ecosystem, to the point where the network is far closer to delivering on that initial promise than before.

Its emphasis on local area networking adds a significant degree of reliability, security and responsiveness over traditional cloud-based services, while the improved communication methods between devices continue to inch closer to true interoperability.

That’s also not to mention the ease of onboarding new products into the ecosystem that the standard allegedly provides.

Where Matter Stands in the Pro Market

While more consumer-focused brands such as Aqara, Samsung and Google have championed the Matter standard, the pro channel has been seeing more of its own manufacturers embrace it as of late.

Before Legrand’s radiant, Hunter Douglas incorporated it into the company’s latest generation of the PowerView line. Hisense as well, achieved a degree of Matter compatibility through a Google partnership as the former continues to build out its product as a fully integratable pro entertainment solution.

Even the aforementioned Aqara, with its device ecosystem built almost entirely on the Matter standard, is now attempting an entry into the professional smart home space through a CI debut at CEDIA Expo 2025.

It’s by no means the luxury solutions commonly seen in the CI space, however, with integrators having grown to be a little more savvy in their business offerings, it’s hard not to view these types of products appearing as effective budget solutions in non-essential areas where automation would still be appreciated.

Available Products in the New Legrand radiant Line

Legrand’s Matter-enabled radiant products currently include:
