Hunter Douglas, a global manufacturer of custom window treatments, has announced that its PowerView Gen 3 Automation platform now supports Matter, the new open-standard for smart home connectivity developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA).
According to the company, the update marks a step forward in the company’s mission to deliver future-ready shade automation that works effortlessly across brands, ecosystems, and platforms.
“We want our customers to enjoy beautiful, custom window treatments without limitations, and that includes control,” says Lucia Giusti, product manager, Hunter Douglas. “With Matter, we’re expanding our compatibility even further to the smart home systems people use every day. This integration is built into the PowerView experience to ensure a simple setup, seamless control, and long-term flexibility.”
Matter Connectivity Opens PowerView Gen 3 to Popular Middle Market Control Platforms
Through this integration Hunter Douglas states that PowerView customers can now control their shades using Apple Home, Google Home, and other Matter controllers/apps. The company explains that Matter support is enabled via a firmware upgrade to the PowerView Gateway or Gateway Pro, which now act as Matter bridges. All existing PowerView Gen 3 shades are supported, no new hardware required.
The company goes on to note that all Hunter Douglas PowerView-compatible shades, including those with advanced features such as Top-Down Bottom-Up, Duolite, Pirouette A Deux, and Aura Illuminated shades are fully supported by the new Matter integration. For dealers looking to offer voice control, Hunter Douglas has created a full guide with best practices for naming and optimizing the enhanced functionality of Hunter Douglas shades.
With Matter connectivity now available across the entire PowerView Automation platform, Hunter Douglas boasts that it offers a broad portfolio of Matter-ready window treatments. Through these choices homeowners can choose from more than 20 motorized shade styles and hundreds of fabrics that spans everything from energy-saving cellular designs to textured drapery. Hunter Douglas adds that solutions such as Aura Illuminated Shades expose both shade motion and their built-in tunable LEDs to Matter, bringing “daylight on demand” scenes into any smart-home ecosystem.
