Generac’s Smart Thermostat Aims to Make the Most Out of Energy Systems During Outages

Integrating directly with Generac batteries and generators, the smart thermostat can help homeowners get away with doing more for less during outages.

Generac is getting in on the smart thermostat game with the release of its own branded smart thermostat from ecobee. The thermostat, officially called ecobee by Generac Smart Thermostat Enhanced with Home Energy Management–a mouthful, I know–is the latest in Generac’s suite of residential energy technology solutions aimed at cleaning up energy usage in the home and comes at a time where energy costs and power outages continue to climb in the wake of straining grid infrastructure.

Ecobee Smart Thermostat Features Unique Integrations with Generac Systems

Like with other smart thermostats in the category (such as ecobee’s latest smart thermostat), the Generac Smart Thermostat intelligently manages HVAC systems to better optimize energy consumption. However, Generac’s take on the device offers a unique value proposition when it comes to electrical outages.

Pulling Generac’s history in the generator and energy storage fields, the thermostat can integrate directly into Generac Home Standby Generators and Generac PWRcell 2 Solar Battery Storage Solutions.

What this means, Generac says, is that homeowners can get away with smaller generators or storage systems thanks to the more efficient usage of energy for heating. This also means that heating and cooling systems can potentially keep running during power outages instead of needing to shut off due to energy consumption.

However, outside of outages, the company states that the thermostat has plenty to make it a useful tool in cutting down energy expenditures throughout the day. According to Generac, the smart thermostat is outfitted with advanced occupancy sensing technology that reacts to homeowners’ habits, delivering energy and cost savings of up to a reported 26% on annual heating and cooling bills. That number was compared to a hold of 72°F/22°C. Of course, actual savings will vary based on several factors, such as use, weather, and energy costs.

Thermostat and Associated Batteries Expected to Launch June 2025

Beginning next month, ecobee by Generac Smart Thermostat Enhanced with Home Energy Management will be available to order through Generac’s extensive dealer network.

Additionally, the company’s new PWRcell 2 Solar Battery Storage Solution will begin shipping in the coming months. Each PWRcell 2 system including an ecobee by Generac Smart Thermostat Enhanced out of the box.
