Located in Telluride, Colorado, this architecturally and technologically striking residence (referred to as The Ridge) presented both breathtaking views and formidable logistical challenges for So Cal West Coast Electric (SCWCE). Beyond the project’s impressive AV integrations, it’s the rack design and supporting network that earned it recent recognition in the 2025 Home of the Year Awards.
Building Infrastructure in Telluride, Colorado
The property was subject to extreme seasonal construction limitations. During early site prep, slab and framing phases, crews were restricted to a four-month annual build window due to weather conditions.
Once the structure was enclosed, year-round work resumed, but winter access was limited to gondola transport, which ultimately shaped the integration strategy.
Understanding the logistical realities of working at altitude in Telluride, SCWCE preassembled and configured its equipment racks off-site.
By completing rack wiring, labeling, and system configuration in advance, the team minimized onsite labor, reduced waste, and ensured that all equipment arrived in proper sequence during the critical summer delivery window.
Collaboration and Long-Term Planning
SCWCE credits years of planning and close collaboration with Savant, Lutron, and AV Partners for the project’s success.
As a licensed C10 Electrical Contractor with more than 40 years of experience and over 20 years as a C7 Low Voltage Contractor, the firm leveraged its integrated electrical and AV expertise to ensure seamless coordination across trades.
For So Cal West Coast Electric, the project reinforces a broader industry trend of high-end residential AV being powered by scalable, networked AV ecosystems built on robust multi-gig infrastructure.
Delivering 37 Whole-Home Audio Zones Over Savant’s AVB
Audio distribution throughout The Ridge is handled via Savant’s AVB platform, delivering whole-home audio across 37 independent zones.
From expansive entertaining spaces to three luxurious guest suites, the system allows granular control of audio content while maintaining synchronized playback where desired.
Networked AV transport ensures low latency and high-fidelity performance across The Ridge with user control provided through Savant remotes and touch panels.
Integration with Lutron HomeWorks further unifies lighting, shading, and media control under a single ecosystem.
AV-Over-IP Architecture Built on a 10G Network Backbone
At the core of the home’s technology infrastructure is a Savant Super Pro Host managing a 10G AV-over-IP video distribution system. Rather than relying on legacy matrix switching, SCWCE deployed a fully networked AV environment ensuring scalability, flexibility, and long-term reliability which was a central focus given the remote location.
Long-haul fiber runs connect 16 video endpoints throughout the residence, enabling, high-bandwidth signal transport across the property.
This network-first AV approach reflects the continued convergence of AV and IT in high-end residential design.
A Rack Room Engineered for Performance and Serviceability
Behind the scenes, the project’s technical sophistication is most visible inside the equipment rack room.
The Middle Atlantic racking system was pre-built and precision-wired off-site, allowing SCWCE to deliver a turnkey infrastructure solution once access to The Ridge became feasible.
In all, the rack system supports:
- Savant 10G IP video distribution
- Whole-home AVB audio transport
- Lutron HomeWorks lighting control
- IC Realtime surveillance infrastructure
- Enterprise-grade network switching
Clean cable management, labeled terminations, and thoughtful layout ensure long-term serviceability.
Integrating Technology into a Mining-Themed Mountain Estate
While the infrastructure is decidedly modern, the architectural aesthetic is rooted in Telluride’s mining heritage.
Constructed with reclaimed wood, steel, and stone, the home features details such as a wire basket elevator and mining carts mounted on recessed rail tracks.
SCWCE adopted a minimalist device strategy to preserve design integrity. Lutron Black Glass Palladiom keypads provide a contemporary counterpoint without overwhelming the rustic interior palette.
The residence also features a dedicated home theater engineered for reference-level performance.
