Shelly Group has released the Shelly Plug Gen4 for the U.S. market, extending the company’s Gen4 smart device line. The plug is designed to work with multiple smart home ecosystems and supports Matter, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, as well as local control. It integrates with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, among other platforms.
The plug handles loads up to 1800W (15A) and includes protections against over wattage, over current, over voltage, under voltage and over temperature. The device also provides real-time energy monitoring and can be used to automate or schedule connected devices alongside this is a built-in lux sensor for automations built on light levels as well. Automations are handled through the built-in Shelly script editor, though pre-configured scripts are also available through the Shelly library. This includes scenarios like automatically rebooting networking equipment after an internet outage.
Security features include TLS 1.2 and encrypted flash to safeguard communications and stored data. Setup is handled through the Shelly app, with options for either cloud-based or local operation, the latter of which is available to ensure data privacy as desired.
