For years streaming music subscribers have been asking the global streaming service Spotify to add lossless audio options to its platform and now the service has begun to roll out lossless audio to Premium tier subscribers in select markets.

The streaming service states that Premium subscribers will receive a Spotify notification once Lossless becomes available to them in their respective market.

“The wait is finally over; we’re so excited lossless sound is rolling out to Premium subscribers,” says Gustav Gyllenhammar, VP Subscriptions, Spotify. “We’ve taken time to build this feature in a way that prioritizes quality, ease of use, and clarity at every step, so you always know what’s happening under the hood. With Lossless, our premium users will now have an even better listening experience.”

Spotify Lossless Audio to Provide Users CD-Quality Content

Lossless is part of Spotify’s ongoing effort to enhance the Premium experience so subscribers can discover and enjoy the music they love. Lossless audio complements features like DJ, Jam, AI Playlist, Mix, Daylist, and playlists curated by Spotify’s editorial team.

Spotify points out that subscribers with Lossless audio can now stream tracks in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC to enable users to enjoy new releases and favorite tracks in a higher quality format.

According to the company, it is also providing users with custom settings for Wi-Fi, cellular, and downloads. Subscribers can select from several music quality options, including Low, Normal, High, Very High, and Lossless, allowing them to control their data usage.

Lossless audio is available to mobile, desktop, and tablet users, as well as on many devices that support Spotify Connect, including Sony, Bose, Samsung, Sennheiser, and more. Support for additional devices, including those from Sonos and Amazon arrives in October 2025.

How to Enable Lossless on Spotify

To access lossless audio, users need to enable the feature in the Spotify app. To do so, the company instructs:

  1. Tap your profile icon in the top left.
  2. Go to Settings & Privacy → Media Quality.
  3. Select where you want to enable lossless audio: Wi-Fi, cellular, downloads.

Users must manually enable lossless audio on each device. Once the option is turned on the company continues, they will see that lossless audio is on because the lossless indicator will appear in the Now Playing view or bar, and via the Connect Picker.

For optimal listening quality, subscribers are advised to stream lossless audio over Wi-Fi with wired headphones or speakers, rather than through Bluetooth. Due to bandwidth limitations, Bluetooth cannot transmit lossless audio, requiring the signal to be compressed.

Lossless audio is rolling out gradually to more than 50 markets through October. Premium subscribers in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the U.S., and the U.K. have already started to get access.
