Shade Innovations (SI), a manufacturer of projection screens and shading solutions, has announced the addition of projection screens to its KAOS outdoor shade line. The new product, KAOS Outdoor Projection Screens, integrates a high-performance projection surface into the existing high-wind motorized shade system structure.
Addressing Outdoor Projection Challenges
According to Shade Innovations, Outdoor projection often faces issues with screen movement caused by wind. Even a light breeze can cause conventional screens to ripple or sway, which distorts the projected image and detracts from the viewing experience. The KAOS system aims to solve this problem by securing the screen fabric directly within its tracks.
The company says this design provides ten times the wind resistance of typical outdoor screens. The engineering behind KAOS includes multiple structural reinforcements and what the company calls its High-Wind System. These features are designed to deliver stability and durability, with a stated performance rating to endure winds of up to 110 mph.
Design, Features, and Applications
The KAOS Outdoor Projection Screen features a retractable design that allows it to disappear into its housing when not in use, preserving the outdoor space’s sightlines and aesthetic. The screen material is an Outdoor-Rated Acoustically Transparent fabric, which serves several purposes. Beyond its function as a projection surface, the fabric also provides daytime privacy, acts as a barrier against insects, and offers a degree of thermal protection, the company says.
The acoustic transparency of the material allows for flexible audio setups. Speakers can be placed behind the screen without muffling the sound, enabling seamless audio-visual integration for outdoor home theaters.
The system is available in widths up to 24 feet, catering to a range of residential and commercial applications. Potential use cases include creating outdoor home theaters, enclosing patios for bug-free living areas, or expanding usable patron space for establishments like restaurants and bars.
Installation and Customization
Shade Innovations states that the system is engineered for straightforward installation and service. It is fully compatible with the broader SI ecosystem of products. For aesthetic integration, customers can choose between a box or a pocket cassette enclosure, which are available in multiple colors to match different architectural styles and decors.
