Officials working for LG have stated that the company plans on spending over $900 million developing new advancements to its OLED TV technology over the next couple of years.

The initial news of the investment was reported by The Elec and comes following the sale of LG’s last LCD panel manufacturing facility, with the company signaling its intentions to focus solely on its OLED tech moving forward.

The news also comes at a time when two of its main competitors, Samsung and Sony, have begun developing an all-new form of TV display technology in the form of the RGB TV. No word has come from LG yet as to whether the company is pursuing development in this next-gen TV technology yet, though the company has unveiled its own next-gen technology in the form of its “dream OLED” panels.

This cash infusion into OLED R&D is roughly expected to boost OLED development until June 2027 and will contribute to improving building infrastructure as well as the acquisition of new equipment at its production facilities. Over half of the funds are slated to be used for its main manufacturing hub in Korea, specifically.

The company has not stated specifically what new OLED technologies will be focusing on in future productions.

Its most recent lineup of OLED TVs for 2025 features the company’s most advanced OLED evo tech to date with enhanced light control architecture and color temperature stabilization. The new OLED evo TVs for 2025 also feature onboard AI to further enhance image quality through a variety of post-processing techniques.
