The global home audio company McIntosh, has announced its the launch of the DS200 Streaming DAC, as the latest solution to complement its product line. Clocking in at $4,000 MSRP, McIntosh states the DS200 was designed for listeners who already have compatible power amplifiers and preamplifiers and are just missing the high-end streaming component to complete their audio systems.
A Quick Look at the DS200
On the outside, McIntosh wraps the DS200 Streaming DAC with its classic industrial design that includes a black glass front faceplate, rotary control knobs, an illuminated logo, and custom machined aluminum end caps. Eight digital audio inputs support high-resolution digital audio playback, including DSD512 and DXD up to 384kHz via USB, and 24-bit/192kHz via coax and optical inputs.

The HDMI (ARC) input transforms TV and movie audio content beyond the capabilities of traditional TV speakers and soundbars, converting Dolby and DTS multi-channel formats into two-channel audio for superior playback the N.Y.-based manufacturer claims. The DS200 also offers balanced (XLR) and unbalanced analog (RCA) outputs, facilitating seamless integration with any existing audio system.
Streaming Compatibility
As a streaming DAC, the new McIntosh component also provides a variety of built-in casting technologies, enabling music to be streamed directly from smart devices without requiring a special control app or technical skills.
Compatible with Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and Google Cast, the DS200 comes equipped with two Wi-Fi antennas and one Bluetooth antenna for more stable wireless connections, as well as an Ethernet port for wired connections. Additionally, the DS200 is compatible with Google Assistant for voice control.

At its core, the DS200 features a next-generation Quad Balanced 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) to enable the component to deliver a wide dynamic range and low distortion for superior sound reproduction. As a Roon Ready endpoint, it integrates seamlessly with the Roon music player, offering enhanced music experiences with metadata and certified streaming technology. McIntosh also points out the unit has also received Roon Tested certification.
Other features include a factory-set in fixed output mode, with an option to switch to variable output mode for direct connection to a power amplifier, allowing the DS200 to control volume in a fully digital audio setup.
Additional features include a data-in port, power control ports, and an RS232 Control port, allowing seamless integration with other McIntosh components and advanced smart home control systems.
