What began as a personal residence for Media Innovation Technologies owner Viktor Kiss and his teenage son has evolved into something more unusual: a fully functional luxury smart home that also serves as a working demonstration environment for prospective clients exploring high-end automation systems.
Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, the 13,400-square-foot property was designed from the ground up with a Control4 automation platform supported by a broad ecosystem of technologies distributed through ADI. The installation includes networking, lighting, audio, shading and video systems working together as a unified environment rather than as a collection of standalone products.
For Kiss, the project was an opportunity to demonstrate how an entire smart home ecosystem can function when technology is planned as part of the architecture from the beginning.
“This isn’t just a house where we experimented to see what technology we preferred,” said homeowner and Media Innovation Technologies owner Viktor Kiss. “These are the brands and solutions we trust every day on real-world projects. The difference here is that we finally had the chance to bring everything together under one roof including the Control4 platform, audio, networking backbone, lighting, shading to show clients what ‘working in harmony’ actually looks and feels like. You can talk about integration all you want, but until people see it operating seamlessly, it’s just theory.”
Designing a Home That Demonstrates Integration

Unlike a traditional technology showroom, the Scottsdale residence allows visitors to experience integrated systems operating within a real living environment.
From the beginning, the project prioritized technology that would enhance the home without dominating its design. Lighting controls, automation hardware and sensors were coordinated with the architecture and interior design so systems could blend into the home rather than compete visually with the surrounding space.
Control4 LUX keypads play a key role in that strategy. Instead of multiple light switches across the wall, engraved keypads allow users to activate lighting, shading and audio scenes through a simplified interface. Paired with Vibrant linear lighting fixtures, the system enables layered lighting scenes across different rooms while maintaining clean wall surfaces.
“I never wanted this to feel like someone slapped gear onto every surface,” Viktor explained. “The whole point was to make the system feel native to the home. When clients walk through, they’re struck by how comfortable and intuitive it feels. They notice the atmosphere first — not the hardware behind it.”
Addressing Arizona’s Harsh Sunlight

Managing Arizona’s intense sunlight and heat was another major design consideration. The home incorporates 28 Clara motorized shades integrated into the Control4 platform. The shades operate on automated schedules that track the sun’s movement throughout the day, helping reduce heat gain and maintain interior comfort.
Even the garage windows are equipped with automated shading to control heat during peak daylight hours.
“I wanted everything to happen without thinking about it,” Viktor added. “The Clara shades take care of the sun, the timing and the heat. Clients always react to how effortless it feels — they see the shades moving at the right moments and immediately understand the value.”
Behind the scenes, the home’s networking infrastructure, power management and structured wiring systems support the automation platform and help ensure reliable system performance across the entire property.
Entertainment at the Center of the Home

Entertainment is another centerpiece of the installation. A dedicated theater built around a Triad Platinum Theater system delivers high-performance cinema audio supported by acoustic treatment and detailed system calibration.
“The theater has been the single most impactful space,” he explained. “People walk in expecting a ‘nice’ media room, but what they hear changes their whole perspective. They don’t expect that level of sound pressure, clarity and immersion in a residential space.”
Video and entertainment extend beyond the theater as well. Inside the home, a nearly nine-foot-tall portrait-format digital art display rotates curated content through the Control4 platform. Outside, a 17-foot-wide weather-ready LED video wall functions as an open-air theater and entertainment centerpiece during gatherings.
Landscape lighting also plays a major role in the property’s design. Roughly 300 FX Luminaire fixtures powered by eight transformers illuminate pathways, landscaping and architectural features throughout the property.
“Whether we’re entertaining or just relaxing outside, the FX Luminaire system gives us total flexibility,” Viktor adds. “Being able to run both the interior and exterior of the property from one app is something clients really respond to.”
For Media Innovation Technologies, the Scottsdale property has become both a personal residence and a demonstration environment that helps clients visualize how integrated systems can function across an entire home.
“When they walk through, they see what happens when everything is planned properly. It’s clean. It works. It feels effortless. That’s a much easier conversation than trying to explain integration on paper.”
