The world of art TVs recently saw a new entrant with the debut of iFFALCON’s Mural TV. iFFALCON is a sub-brand of TCL with the Mural TV running on roughly the same technology as an average TCL TV and  Google TV running as the operating system.

Like other TVs of this category, the distinguishing feature is that the Mural TV switches to that of a digital frame when on standby, displaying art and pictures as opposed to a blank black screen.

The artwork displayed on the Mural includes classical artwork and personal photos, but iFFALCON also states the TV’s onboard AI engine will be able to generate art on its own if the user chooses.

All TVs in the Mural range are 4K UHD QLED with reportedly 93% DCI-P3 wide color gamut coverage on 55-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch models.

The TVs also sport a 144Hz refresh rate as well as AMD FreeSync Premium variable refresh rate support for those who might want to use it for gaming.

The Mural TVs also comes with support for Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HLG and HGIG. On the audio side, there’s support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X as well.

Some Extra Context

Within the past year, the art TV subcategory has seen a surge of competition with Hisense, SKYWORTH and TCL all having introduced their own version of an art TV. Samsung itself has also released a new model of The Frame aimed at the professional market called The Frame Pro.

Why It’s Significant

Like other technologies, TV prices tend to go down over time due to manufacturing efficiencies, however, many have described the TV market as being engaged in a “race to the bottom” for quite some time due to fierce competition among brands driving down prices to razor thin margins.

For the longest time, Samsung has held dominance in what has long been considered a niche sub-category, but within a single year, three competitors introduced similar models with comparable specs and lower pricing. The Mural TV range marks the fourth entry into the subcategory and the second from TCL.
