Deako, a Seattle-based smart lighting manufacturer, has launched its next-generation Smart Switch and a redesigned version of its companion mobile app. The updated platform introduces Magic Linking, a proprietary technology designed to automatically configure multi-way lighting circuits with no wiring expertise or manual programming required.
The company says Magic Linking is the first of its kind in the smart lighting space and significantly cuts installation time in half. Once the switches are installed, they discover and configure with one another automatically—without requiring the homeowner or installer to manually pair devices or access complicated wiring diagrams.
“It’s our goal to bring easy-to-use technology that makes the smart home customizable to life,” said Derek Richardson, CEO and founder of Deako. “We’re constantly evolving our solutions to better meet the needs of the partners and homeowner communities. These enhanced capabilities will allow for smoother and faster installation, making whole-home smart lighting more accessible and seamless to incorporate into any build.”
The new Smart Switch also includes a built-in Beacon Light Bar, designed to improve usability and visibility. It features two operating modes: Locator, which emits a soft glow when the lights are off to help users find the switch in the dark; and Status, which displays whether the connected lighting is on or off—particularly useful for exterior or distant fixtures, the company says.
Alongside the hardware, the company says the Deako App has been overhauled to support faster onboarding, upgraded Bluetooth mesh performance, and smarter device discovery. The app allows users to configure lighting groups, schedules, timers, and scenes. It also provides multi-home support and automated suggestions for naming and organizing devices.
The platform integrates with third-party ecosystems such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Alarm.com, SmartThings, Control4, Clare, and Home Assistant, giving users more flexibility in how they control their smart lighting systems.
The product launch coincides with Deako’s 10th anniversary. Over the past decade, the company has expanded its footprint among national builders, now boasting a network of more than 40 partners including D.R. Horton, Meritage Homes, Toll Brothers, Maronda Homes, and Stone Martin Builders while also appearing at major industry trade shows such as this year’s International Builder’s Show (IBS).
Deako’s modular lighting system is designed for scalability, with a builder-friendly platform that allows developers to pre-install smart-ready infrastructure, enabling homeowners to upgrade to smart functionality at any time.
