Expanding its selection of headphone solutions, Bowers & Wilkins has announced its True Wireless Headphone products.
The company’s new in-ear headphones are designed to address the problem of wireless convenience taking priority over audio performance.
Bowers & Wilkins says that after an extensive period of development it was able to produce a series of in-ear headphone products that deliver high levels of sound quality and a range of smart convenience features.
True Wireless Headphones Include a Choice of Models
The PI5 and PI5 True Wireless headphones from Bowers & Wilkins incorporate Qualcomm’s aptX adaptive wireless technologies to complement smart products that are capable of transmitting high-resolution audio.
Bowers & Wilkins explains the PI7 offers 24-bit/48kHz audio between each ear bud, and the headphone also incorporates a 9.2mm bespoke drive unit that’s complemented by a high-frequency “balanced armature” driver. The four-driver system (two per ear bud) is actively driven by internal amplification to provide users with, “exceptional control, superlative dynamics and deep, accurate bass.”
Other features built into the PI7 True Wireless Headphones include Adaptive Noise Cancellation to automatically monitor, analyze and adapt the headphones’ to match their surrounding environment through the use of three microphones per ear bud.
Additionally, Bowers & Wilkins says the ear buds’ microphones also support quality phone calls when used with smart phones or collaboration apps.
The other True Wireless Headphone model is the PI5.
Like the PI7, the PI5 employs a 9.2mm bespoke drive unit in each ear bud, and the product supports CD-quality sound (16-bit/44kHz).
Bowers & Wilkins notes the PI5 True Wireless Headphone includes its TWS+ ear bud-to-ear bud synchronization technology, along with Qualcomm’s aptX technologies, and it offers a user-selectable ambient pass-through mode. The PI5 also uses a pair of built in microphones to support phone calls and collaboration.
Both models can be configured in the Bowers & Wilkins app, and both products offer simple, one-button interfaces.
Other options built into both models include voice-assistant support from either Apple Siri or Google Assistant; the ability to wirelessly connect multiple sources to switch from for example, music listening on a phone, to to a conference call on a computer.
Additionally, both models charge through a number of methods such as companion charging cases. The PI5 will last for 4.5 hours before needing a recharge, and the PI7s will run for 4 hours before needing a recharge.
One exclusive feature the PI7 True Wireless Headphones incorporate is a smart charging case option that allows users to charge their ear buds from an external audio source such as 3.5mm or USB. This option then will retransmit Audio from that source to the PI7s without compromising sound quality.
The headphones are available in a choice of charcoal or white finishes. The PI5s carry an MSRP of $249, and the PI7s carry an MSRP of $399.
