ADT Acquires Origin AI to Expand AI Sensing Capabilities in the Smart Home

ADT acquires Origin AI to add camera-free AI sensing to its smart home platform and expands deployment through Verisure agreement.
Published: February 24, 2026

ADT is deepening its push into intelligence-driven home protection with the acquisition of Origin AI, a move that adds real-time, camera-free AI sensing technology to the company’s security and smart home platform.

The $170 million all-cash acquisition brings Origin AI’s sensing platform and intellectual property into ADT Inc., positioning the technology as a foundational layer for future security, safety, and automation services. ADT says the platform enables detection and classification of human presence and motion without relying on cameras, microphones, or wearable devices, an approach designed to add contextual awareness while maintaining customer privacy.

Once integrated, the technology is expected to enhance alarm verification, improve understanding of in-home activity, and support broader smart home use cases. According to ADT, the platform can analyze presence, occupancy, and movement patterns to add context to security events, reduce false alarms, and improve coordination with emergency responders. Longer term, the company sees applications extending beyond traditional security into areas such as occupancy-based automation and aging-in-place support.

The acquisition also includes a portfolio of more than 200 early-priority global patents, which ADT describes as a core intelligence layer intended to support the next phase of residential security and smart home development. ADT expects commercial offerings that incorporate Origin AI’s sensing capabilities to begin rolling out in 2027.

Verisure Agreement Extends ADT’s Global AI Reach

Alongside the acquisition, ADT announced a long-term commercial agreement involving Origin AI and Verisure, extending Verisure’s use of the AI sensing platform across Europe and Latin America. The five-year, renewable agreement builds on an existing relationship, as Verisure has worked with Origin AI for approximately five years and has been a minority investor since 2023.

Under the agreement, Verisure will retain rights to commercialize the AI sensing technology in its markets, including defined exclusivity for professionally monitored security services in Europe and Latin America. The deal also includes provisions for ongoing development collaboration and data sharing aimed at improving AI model performance and accelerating new use cases, including applications related to aging and occupancy intelligence.

The agreement is valued at $30 million over five years for development services, with additional per-household activation fees consistent with Verisure’s prior arrangements with Origin AI.

From Reactive Alerts to Contextual Awareness with AI

ADT says the addition of AI sensing reflects a broader shift toward continuous, context-aware home intelligence rather than purely reactive security alerts. By adding real-time understanding of what is happening inside the home, the company aims to improve accuracy, reduce nuisance alarms, and expand the role of professional monitoring in modern smart homes.

ADT and Verisure say the combination of AI sensing technology and large-scale professional monitoring infrastructure is intended to accelerate adoption of intelligent security services across millions of connected homes worldwide.
