Wyze Bulb Cam is Another Combined Smart Light and Security Camera

Consumer-focused Wyze is releasing a combined smart light and security camera, marketing its convenience and affordability.

Smart home device maker Wyze has launched the Wyze Bulb Cam, a hybrid smart bulb and security camera designed to offer outdoor monitoring through any standard light fixture. Priced at $49.98, the new product is aimed at homeowners looking for a simple, affordable surveillance solution that doesn’t require wiring, charging, or additional mounting hardware.

According to the company, the Wyze Bulb Cam combines a 2K HD camera with a dimmable 800-lumen LED bulb, offering visual clarity both during the day and at night thanks to built-in Wide Dynamic Range and color night vision capabilities. The device provides a 160-degree field of view and can be manually rotated, tilted, and extended to suit the coverage area.

Wyze says the Bulb Cam installs like a standard light bulb and is powered directly through the light fixture, eliminating the need for nearby outlets. It supports continuous local video recording to a microSD card (up to 256 GB, sold separately) and includes two-way audio features for communication via smartphone.

Additional features include app-based lighting controls, compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT, and support for grouped lighting using Wyze’s new Accessory Bulbs, which are sold separately for $16.98 each. AI-powered notifications are available as part of the optional Cam Unlimited Pro subscription plan, which provides motion event summaries and smart filtering capabilities.

According to Wyze co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer Dave Crosby, the product was developed with ease of use and affordability in mind.

“The Wyze Bulb Cam makes keeping an eye on those places easy with a high-quality camera that’s affordable and simple to set up,” Crosby said. “It’s literally as easy as screwing in a light bulb.”

This is the second notable light bulb camera release this year, coming after Canadian manufacturer Lorex announced a similar device that combines a 2K camera with a dimmable lightbulb for a dual-purpose lighting and security solution.

The Wyze Bulb Cam and Wyze Accessory Bulbs are now available for purchase at Wyze.com.

It’s important to note that while this is a relatively unique product, Wyze has had its fair share of issues with security and privacy.
