Throughout his career, the long-time consumer electronics veteran has remained lock step in line with the balance most consumers demand from speaker companies and their desire for sound quality at reasonable prices.
At CES 2017, the company has introduced its new flagship Triton Reference loudspeaker.
Building upon the success of its Triton One, which was announced back in 2014, GoldenEar is setting a new performance bar that also provides dealers with a competitively priced product they can provide to their customers.
Using the Triton One as a starting point, the new flagship Triton Reference loudspeaker utilizes a completely new set of drivers, and GoldenEar emphasizes the drivers are specifically designed for the Reference product.
Triton Reference Loudspeaker: Features & Specs
The speaker features new cast basket 6-inch upper/bass/midrange drivers that incorporate low-mass voice coils, along with GoldenEar's “Focused Field” magnet structure, and butyl rubber surrounds. The Triton Reference also includes the company's new 6-inch by 10-inch active low-frequency drivers, and GoldenEar points out these drivers offer 40 percent more surface area than the Triton One. These drivers also utilize the company's “Focused Field” magnet technology.
The speaker's new Reference High-Velocity Folded-Ribbon (HVFR) tweeter employs 50 percent more neodymium magnet material that its other HVFR tweeter to increase its efficiency.
GoldenEar also points out the Triton Reference's four inertially balanced 10.5-inch by 9.5-inch side mounted planar infrasonic radiators are similar in design to the radiators used in the company's acclaimed SuperSub X subwoofer.
Examining the speaker's crossover network, GoldenEar explains the Triton Reference's includes new wiring designs, along with the implementation of the company's signature balanced crossover network that includes film capacitors bridged across the high-pass section of its midrange drivers. This design features the use of a proprietary mix of long-fiber lamb's wool and Dacron for improved internal damping that aids the speaker's internal bracing.
The 93dB-efficient Triton Reference also includes a 3/32-inch thick steel plate built into its medite base to increase its stability once dealers place the speaker into a room location, and speaker's stainless steel floor spikes and cups help to decouple the Triton Reference from the floor. The 8-ohm speaker's specified frequency response is 12Hz to 35kHz, and GoldenEar says the speaker can handle 20 to 750 watts of power.
GoldenEar's 58-inch tall, hand-rubbed piano black lacquer finished, one-piece monocoque Triton Reference can be seen in its exhibit room in the Venetian (#30-120) during CES 2017.
