Leviton is launching the Decora Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug-In Switch, which the company says is the first Matter-enabled outdoor smart plug.
The Melville, N.Y.-based manufacturer of smart lighting solutions says the new outdoor smart plug brings smart home control and the My Leviton platform to backyards, patios, garages, porches and more.
The device is essentially designed for outdoor applications requiring on/off switching, such as string lights, holiday decorations, inflatables landscape and path lighting, fountain and aquarium pumps, outdoor fans and other outdoor electronics and small appliances.
Leviton’s Decora Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug-in Switch can withstand temperatures from -20F to 122F, and has an IP65 rating to protect rom dirt, dust, moisture, rain, sprinklers, hoses, snow and UV corrosion, the company says.
The switch can also be controlled with Leviton’s Anywhere Switch Companion, and the built-in light sensor can automatically turn on connected lighting during evening hours and turn it off during daylights hours without having to program a schedule, according to Leviton.
Like other smart lighting solutions, the Leviton Decorta Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug-In Switch can be customized to control connected lighting or devices from anywhere, including while on vacation for an at-home appearance via the My Leviton app.
The app also allows for the automation of lighting scenes and activities, scheduling or based on sunrise and sunset, and an auto-shutoff feature.
James Shurte, senior product manager of smart home for Leviton, says the plug-in switch was designed to meet the needs of outdoor lighting and load control with easy-to-use features.
