URC Adds Integration with Axion Lighting to Total Control Platform

The new integration leverages URC’s Unified Modules framework to support up to 512 DMX channels while enabling automations with other Total Control subsystems.

Given the current dynamism of the lighting category, control brands have their work cut out for them when it comes to making sure all options work seamlessly on a given platform. In that vein, URC recently announced a new integration with Axion Lighting, bringing the company’s DMX-based lighting systems into the Total Control platform.

The collaboration leverages URC’s Unified Modules framework, which was developed to standardize interfaces across multiple smart home categories in a way that benefits both integrators and end-users.

What the Axion Integration Adds to Total Control

The new integration enables two-way, real-time IP-based control and feedback for DMX fixtures. Upon setup, the new Axion Lighting Unified Lighting and Scenes module automatically identifies all configured channels and organizes fixtures within the Unified Lighting interface.

Dealers can then assign channels by fixture name, room and color or dimmer role, with the system supporting up to 512 DMX channels. Fixture attributes — such as brightness, color, and effects — are controlled directly through the Unified interface, allowing for fine-grained management.

Scenes can also be recorded and recalled through Unified Scenes, enabling end-users to trigger multi-room lighting environments alongside other automation events. At the same time, dealers can crate more advanced macros that combine lighting effects with other Total Control subsystem automations, such as shading and AV.

Advanced Pixel Decoder and Scene Support

The module also includes support for Axion Pixel Decoders, allowing integrators to program LED strips in two distinct modes: Mode 1 (or segmented for independent zone control) and Mode 2 (or global for unified brightness and effect control).

How Integrators Stand to Benefit

With the integration, URC says dealers can expect faster setup and reduced redundant programming, while end-users can expect a more cohesive control experience across lighting, climate and shading systems.

From Axion’s side, Chris Allen, Chief Product Officer, is quoted as saying:

“By joining URC’s Unified Modules ecosystem, Axion lighting gains a consistent interface for the end-user and a powerful programming environment for installers. Together, this integration makes advanced lighting more accessible and reliable.”

While Lars Granoe, URC’s VP of Product Development had this to say:

“Unified Modules are transforming the way integrators deliver automation. The Axion integration shows how advanced lighting can be folded into a larger Unified Modules framework, giving installers more power and customers more simplicity. It’s the perfect example of technical depth hidden behind an intuitive interface.”
