TiVo is working on a new DVR and service called Mavrik that allows “diskless cloud DVR” storage, according to online reports from Zatz Not Funny and TVPredictions.
Dave Zatz of the eponymous site likens the Mavrik (possibly the successor to the leaked, never-released TiVo Mantis) to Tablo, the over-the-air streamer that itself resembles SiliconDust's HDHomeRun.
The new product and service would not be a stretch for TiVo, which acquired Aereo for a cheap $1 million when that OTA-streaming service was killed by a Supreme Court Ruling in 2014. TiVo promised it was “keeping the Aereo dream alive.”
Zatz notes a discription from an Android app for Mavrik that offers:
- TV Program Guide
- OTA Live Streaming
- Streaming Content Search, allowing users to deep link into their Amazon Prime Video account
- Cloud DVR access
