Josh.ai has unveiled a suite of updates for its AI-powered operating system, with the announcement of a new AI X OS, central to the news.

According to Josh, AI X OS is the next iteration of its automation platform, with this latest iteration integrating AI across the entire Josh.ai ecosystem to provide unified control of connected systems through touch, voice and text interfaces.

This comes with all-new graphical interfaces for the Josh App on iOS and Android, the Josh Touchscreen and the Josh.ai + AVA Remote.

AI X OS Core Features

Among the key features being introduced AI X OS is something Josh is calling the Lighting Intelligence Controller.

According to the company, the controller offers advanced color selection, dynamic lighting effects, circadian light matching, and contextual grouping, while AI Scenes intelligently recommends automation routines like “Good Morning,” “Relax,” and “Entertain.”

Other features include Advanced AV Distribution 2.0, which supports AV over IP, MXNet, and Dante, enabling low-latency, high-fidelity media throughout the home; and CustomDash, which reportedly allows users to personalize dashboards with frequently used devices, rooms and scenes.

AI X OS also expands security with Camera Capture, allowing users to capture and review important events from integrated cameras, and includes JoshGPT 3.0 for natural-language AI assistance.

In addition, the new OS will add sales and support tools for integrators, allowing dealers to register their pipeline of upcoming projects in the web-based Josh Portal.

AI Scenes

AI X OS also introduces AI Scenes, a feature very similar to one Google has been touting for its platform but has yet to fully release.

According to Josh, AI Scenes will work as proactive automations suggested to end users by the control system, with the automations being inspired by frequently utilized daily routines.

The suggestions will be available in the Josh app for further refinement if desired, however, the goal, according to Josh, is to help simplify smart home setup while introducing client to meaningful automations they might not have considered adding initially.

In Pursuit of Proactive Automations

Currently, AI-aided automation suggestion and generation stands as one of the “holy grails” among smart home manufacturers with Josh.ai, Google and Nice all currently pursuing these functions within their systems in their own respective ways.

The capability, broadly, represents a major milestone in the development of smart homes, pushing them towards a more, intelligent, thinking system as they have predominantly been depicted as in the media.

For clients, it offers an intuitive, non-intrusive method for refining automations to best fit their lifestyle, while, for integrators, it has the potential to vastly streamline and simplify the development of custom automations and scenes.

Josh.ai 10-Inch Touchscreen and Edge Remote Announcements

Along with the AI X OS update, Josh is also debuting a new 10-inch Josh Touchscreen. According to Josh, the bigger screen is meant to provide more real estate for room-specific dashboards, monitoring, and custom automations.

Both the 10-inch and 8-inch sizes feature edge-to-edge capacitive touch, tap-to-talk voice control, and PoE connectivity, with options for flush mount or tabletop installation.

Josh.ai is even introducing a new Josh Edge remote. This new remote will serve as a fully customizable controller with intelligent button mapping, multi-directional navigation, and dedicated media controls.

The Edge’s six upper buttons will be interchangeable for customization and adaptability, being able to control a room’s devices, activate custom scenes like Movie Time or act a shortcut for favorite channels and streaming services, citing a few examples Josh has provided.

The Josh Edge remote is set to start shipping later this year.

Further complementing its product launch, Josh.ai announced a resale agreement with IC Realtime to offer cameras, NVRs, and accessories with built-in integration, further streamlining installation and system performance for integrators.

These products will be available for purchase in the Josh.ai store starting on October 1st 2025.
