Josh.ai used its 2026 keynote webinar to outline a software-first roadmap for adaptive smart home control, announcing the impending availability of its AI X OS operating system, a redesigned mobile app experience, expanded device integrations, and updates to its Josh Edge remote.

The keynote focused on how over-the-air software updates and natural-language configuration are reshaping how integrators deploy and maintain smart home systems. The company says its approach moves beyond traditional pre-programmed installations toward systems that can be adjusted dynamically by both dealers and homeowners.

The event highlighted a 12,000-square-foot residential installation in Newport Beach, Calif. by integrator Custom Connections, demonstrating unified control of lighting, shading, distributed audio and video, and voice interaction.

Josh.ai CEO Alex Capecelatro described the company’s latest announcements as part of a broader shift in the industry toward more flexible system design and ongoing optimization through software. The focus, he says, is ease of use and simplicity with natural-language configuration enables homeowners to refine system behavior after installation, potentially reducing service calls while improving user satisfaction.

“Today’s keynote represents an important moment for Josh and for the broader smart home industry,” says Alex Capecelatro, CEO of Josh.ai. “For years, installing a smart home meant interviewing the client, pre-programming the system, installing it, then returning again and again to refine it as the homeowner figured out how they actually wanted to live in the space. With Josh.ai, that model changes. Systems can now be configured on the fly using natural language, even by the homeowner themselves.

AI X OS and Redesigned App Experience

Central to the keynote was AI X OS, a forthcoming update that Josh.ai says embeds artificial intelligence more deeply across its ecosystem. The update, first introduced at CEDIA Expo/CIX 2025, is expected to roll out this Spring and will connect all Josh.ai products within a unified software framework.

The company also previewed a redesigned Josh App, which introduces several user interface updates and personalization features. These include a customizable home screen that prioritizes frequently used devices, a streamlined navigation structure, improved access to active media controls, and AI-guided scene creation. According to Josh.ai, the updated voice interface is designed to deliver more contextual interactions for near-field commands.

Adaptive Control Through Josh Edge

Josh.ai also detailed new capabilities for its Josh Edge remote, which combines physical controls, voice interaction, and automation. The remote began shipping to integrators in December 2025. The company demonstrated the ability to assign or modify button functions through natural-language requests rather than manual programming, potentially reducing service calls and the amount of time integrators spend on the site.

Josh.ai says the device can adapt to context within a room, shifting its interface based on whether audio or video content is active. The company positions this functionality as a way to simplify control in shared living spaces while maintaining access to complex automation features.

Integration firm Global Wave Integration was featured, with Kyle Steele and wife Sarah demonstrating how the remote is contextually aware of what’s possible within the room. The remote’s sleek design and form factor was also a highlight.

Expanded Automation and Outdoor System Support

The keynote included updates to Josh.ai’s automation tools, including AI-generated scenes designed to respond to homeowner intent. Rather than programming detailed device actions, users can describe desired environments, with the system generating coordinated lighting, media, and other adjustments.

Josh.ai also announced forthcoming native support for pool and spa systems from select manufacturers. The new device category will allow users to manage outdoor amenities through the app, touchscreen interfaces, or voice commands, and incorporate them into broader home automation routines.

Ecosystem Growth Through Developer Platform

To expand interoperability, Josh.ai highlighted new integrations enabled through its Nimble DevSuite development platform. The company says the program is intended to accelerate driver creation and broaden compatibility with third-party devices.

New integrations span categories including HVAC controls, lighting protocols, security hardware, audio amplification, shading, and connected sensors. The company emphasized that many updates will be delivered through over-the-air software deployments, reinforcing its focus on continuous platform evolution.

The keynote underscored the company’s view that adaptive, software-driven systems will play an increasing role in how integrators design and support connected residential environments.
