Control4’s Smart-Home Mash-up: Design Meets Tech

Control4 does home automation ... but preaches design.
Published: November 19, 2019

Control4, now part of SnapAV, is a leading home-automation company but you might think it was an interior design or architectural firm judging by its smart-home messaging these days.

The most recent “Design Issue” of the company’s Smart Home Magazine, for example, shows a handful of smart devices, but mostly a whole bunch of stunning images of beautiful homes loaded with technology that is barely visible.

“Technology is really not just a box that you set on a counter,” says Brad Hintze, Control4 senior director product marketing, in a video interview with CE Pro’s Julie Jacobson. “It is technology that enables a whole new lifestyle, and that’s part of creating a great space, and making a home feel exactly how a homeowner wants ….”

As Hintze explains, Control4 has been on a design rampage over the past year — launching Control4 Certified Showroooms that must abide by both design and technology guidelines; creating CEU courses for design/build pros; hosting lunch-and-learns for design-oriented trades; chasing and promoting stunning installs by Control4 dealers; and pushing design-centric smart-home content to aesthetes.

Control4 is a sponsor of the upcoming Design+Tech Connection Conference, presented by CE Pro, along with NKBA and KBB from the kitchen-and-bath industry.
