The global smart-home company Control4 has announced a new family of Pakedge PowerPak remote power devices.
Control4 says the launch of the new Pakedge PowerPak remote power devices enables professional electronics installers to solve problems remotely in order to expedite customer service and save on costly onsite service calls.
“On average there are 40 connected devices in a Control4 smart home. The high impact combination of BakPak and our new PowerPak line gives our dealers powerful tools to monitor and manage virtually all the gear in their customers' homes [to] remedy issues before they even become apparent to the homeowner,” says Paul Williams, vice president, product management, Control4. “Having the ability to remotely troubleshoot issues will save our dealers time and money.”
Providing dealers with more than just remote monitoring and problem-solving capabilities, the product line also offers thresholds for current and voltage draw, and self healing for non-responsive devices.

Incorporating built-in UL1449 surge protection, PowerPak protects connected components from surges and spikes.
Control4 points out the product line also features SafeStart boot sequencing to power on devices such as modems, routers and switches in the appropriate order to ensure proper reset and network functionality.
Offering a total of nine outlets, remote power pack allows for group or individual with port-level control and monitoring. The Utah-based company explains that integrators that use BakPak can define voltage and current thresholds for connected devices, and they can receive alerts in the event a device exceeds these thresholds and experiences problems.
The company says the PowerPak line of power devices' outlets are controllable via Telnet or through the use of a web browser, and integrators can preprogram the outlets.
Another dealer aid available is a new Control4 driver that supports automated and programmed outlets. Locally, PowerPak devices self-healing capabilities can power cycle devices that are non-responsive to network pings.
These capabilities, Control4 notes, allow integrators to add intelligent power control to any device not connected to the network.
