The upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 will have new stricter security measures in place, including an app designed for attendees to use to report suspicious activity and get safety information.
CES 2018 takes place in Las Vegas from January 9-12, 2018 and is expected to draw nearly 200,000 attendees to see 4,000 booths across 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space. Needless to say, an event of that size requires a solid security plan. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has put in place several security measures, including:
Registration and Badge Pickup
CES badges will now include a photo ID for all attendees and media.
- Attendees will be required to provide your date of birth when they register
- Attendees also will be required to provide a unique, verifiable email address
- Attendees must present a government-issued photo ID to pick up their badge on-site
Attendees are encouraged to register online in advance of the show and pick up their badge at the airport or at select hotels.

On-Site Security: Bag Checks
All attendees must have an official CES badge and government-issued photo ID to enter CES. There will be bag search at the entrance to all show venues. All bags are subject to search and metal wand screening. In addition:
- Attendees may carry two small bags, each smaller than 12x17x6 inches into show venues
- Attendees are encouraged to consider their bag type and use clear bags (mesh, plastic, vinyl, etc.) to expedite entry
- Rolling bags of any size are prohibited including luggage, carry-ons, laptop and computer bags and rolling luggage carts
Attendees will be encouraged to leave their bags at their hotel. However CES 2018 will offer bag check facilities which are located at the LVCC Central Plaza next to the main Registration tent, Sands Level 1 Lobby and the Venetian Ballroom Foyer.
Visible Law Enforcement; Safety App
At CES 2018, attendees will notice a more highly-visible law enforcement presence throughout the show and at all venues. Law enforcement officers and K9 (dog) units will be at both the entrance to the venues and on the exhibit floor. CES will be performing random security checks on show premises. As an enhanced security measure, there is a new vehicle deterrence plan in and around key venues.
New for CES 2018 is the LiveSafe app. LiveSafe is a mobile app which CES attendees can use to get safety information, report tips and contact security. Attendees can download the LiveSafe app from Google Play or the App Store and join CES 2018, and should turn on locations services for full functionality. Attendees are encouraged to report suspicious activity to CES either via the LiveSafe app or via the security phone numbers printed on the back of their CES badge.
