The Living in Place Institute is an educational organization devoted solely to professionals in the industry. The role of the organization is to help integrators, designers, architects, contractors and others make their home projects safer, healthier and more comfortable. The organization does that through a series of educational programs.
Technology has risen to much more prominence in terms of allowing homeowners to stay in place after injuries or aging.
“Things like motion-sensing faucets are coming into play, let alone be able to control faucets by your voice,” says Louie Delaware, co-founder of LIPI. “There’s so many different ways that homes are changing based upon the need to make it more germ-free. Being able to turn on the faucet by just saying, ‘Turn on my faucet’ is really wonderful.
LIPI is known for its successful Certified Living in Place Professional (CLIPP) program that is a three-day training that goes on for about six hours each day. It is designed for medical professionals, designers, remodelers, home modification specialists, home inspectors, real estate agents, non-medical home care specialists, and integrators to learn how to create solutions for living in place.
New Living in Place Institute HATS Certification
At the CEDIA Expo Virtual, the institute is unveiling its new Home and Accessibility Trade Specialist (HATS) certification aimed at professionals who install designs and products. The HATS program is pre-recorded videos but are still engaging and interactive, according to Erik Listou, co-founder.
“This is a wonderful program. This will be a series of pre-recorded classes and the recordings will essentially be a PowerPoint presentation,” says Listou He says the program is unique because it will be peer-to-peer instruction from system integrators, electricians and medical professionals. The program will outline the specific terminology to use with clients and the medical aspects of living in place.
At CEDIA Expo Virtual, the Living In Place Institute is offering a $100 discount on the course, from its normal $299 to $199.
