In premium home audio setups, sometimes space is the stuff that comes at a premium. For that reason, it’s always a welcome sight to see a hi-fi product that tries to make the most of its form factor like with Cambridge Audio’s MXW70 power amplifier.
The recent release is a part of Camrbidge’s MX range, which itself is a “half-width” range focusing on compact audio system components such as streamers and network players. Cambridge itself even points to the new amplifier as being the “perfect” partner to the MXN10 streamer.

MXW70 Keeps Size Modest with Respect to Output
Being on the smaller side the MXW70 has a max output of 70W per channel of stereo power, which is also bridgeable in mono mode, giving it a max output there of 250W on a Class D amplifier.
For reference, this is all contained within a 2.2 x 8.4 x 8.4-inch chassis, making the amplifier small enough to be stowed away in a cupboard or similarly small, closeted space, though it can still be affixed to a rack system if desired. It also only weighs a little over 3.5 pounds.
The case itself is comprised of an all-metal build and comes in a Lunar Grey finish for a minimalist look that matches the MXN10 streamer and DacMagic 200M DAC, which Camrbidge suggests pairing the amplifier with for a space-conscious streaming setup (it actually looks very similar to the recently-released Wiim Vibelink amp, or its initial Wiim Amp which CE Pro Senior Editor Bob Archer got to have a look at).
There are only two connections for speakers in the back, but Camrbidge claims the MXW70 is capable of powering even the more demanding of speakers. Additionally, XLR and RCA inputs give users options for analog inputs, in addition to being able to deliver high-quality, noise free audio.
