Last summer Bowers & Wilkins celebrated its 50th anniversary with the launch of its 800 D3 loudspeaker.
Leveraging the technologies it brought to market with its latest generation 800 Series loudspeakers, B&W has introduced its CI800 Series Diamond architectural loudspeakers. The three new models — CWM8 3D, CWM8 5D and CCM8 5D — incorporate B&W's famous Diamond dome tweeters, along with Continuum and Aerofoil driver cones, to provide homeowners with a premium sound experience that is virtually unseen.
B&W explains the Diamond tweeter, along with the Continuum and Aerofoil drivers were developed through several years of research and development (R&D), and it states the Diamond tweeter is, “the most accurate high-frequency drive unit available.”
Elaborating on its design approach, B&W emphasizes the benefits of diamonds as a driver material, and how it specifically implements the tweeters in its speakers.
“This exceptionally stiff and light diaphragm ensures pure, distortion free treble. Decoupling the tweeters from the body of the loudspeaker also reduces unwanted vibrations from the other drive units for sound that is more precise and accurate,” says the company in a press statement.
Pointing out the use of the Continuum midrange drivers, B&W says this new driver took nearly a decade to develop and it delivers a level of transparency that aids with accurate vocal reproduction.
B&W says its three-way CI800 model the CWM8.3 D employs its Aerofoil drivers from its 800 Diamond series speakers, and this driver features a carbon-fiber skin that encapsulates a syntactic foam in a computer-optimized curved geometry.
Other performance elements built into the product line include B&W's Matrix bracing system to ensure the speakers' enclosures remain rigid, as well as bi-wireable cables that are guided to the terminal panel through tubes that connect to the speakers' baffles via multi-pin connectors.
The speakers are also supported with optional back boxes, and B&W says the speakers fit into the same footprint as its existing CI800 product line to allow dealers to easily upgrade their clients' audio systems.
CWM8.3 D Three-Way Speaker
This speaker features a decoupled Diamond dome tweeter, along with a 5-inch Continuum FST midrange driver, and a pair of 7-inch Aerofoil bass driver. B&W says dealers can install this speaker horizontally or vertically and they can realign the rotatable central driver to ensure the best possible performance.
CWM8.5 D Two-Way Speaker
This loudspeaker employs B&W's decoupled Diamond dome tweeter along with a 7-inch Continuum driver, and a anti-resonance plug.
CCM8.5 D Two-Way Speaker
The CCM8.5 D employs a decoupled Diamond dome tweeter and a single 7-inch Continuum driver with an anti-resonance plug. B&W adds the CCM8.5 D also features a rotatable mini-baffle, which allows dealers to “toe-in” the drive units to help create a precise image for an improved listening experience.
