Apple’s long-rumored smart home hub has reportedly been delayed once again as the company continues development of a redesigned version of Siri that will serve as the device’s primary interface.

According to MacRumors, which cited a Bloomberg report, Apple now expects to introduce the product around September 2026. The delay stems from ongoing work on Apple’s next-generation Siri platform, which is intended to incorporate deeper artificial intelligence capabilities.

Bloomberg’s reporting suggests the hardware itself has been largely completed for months, but Apple is holding the device until the new Siri experience is ready. The upgraded assistant is designed to deliver more advanced contextual awareness and improved interactions across apps and services.

Apple had initially targeted a spring 2025 debut for the hub before shifting the timeline to spring 2026 as development of its Apple Intelligence features took longer than expected. The company reportedly planned to align the device with a Siri update tied to iOS 26.4, but that version of Siri has not yet appeared in current beta software.

The report indicates Apple engineers are still addressing issues with the reliability and accuracy of the updated voice assistant before making it widely available.

About Apple’s Smart Home Hub

The smart home hub is expected to serve as a centralized control point for connected devices while also functioning as a communications and information display. Bloomberg’s report describes the device as featuring a roughly 7-inch square display and a form factor similar to a small tablet. It can reportedly be mounted on a wall or placed on a speaker-style base.

A built-in camera may allow the device to recognize individuals in the room and surface personalized information or controls when someone approaches. The system is designed to handle tasks such as managing smart home products, initiating calls, and displaying information from Apple services like Calendar and Reminders.

While the device reportedly will not include a dedicated App Store, it is expected to run Apple applications on a version of tvOS with an interface that organizes round icons in a layout reminiscent of the Apple Watch.

Apple first previewed elements of its new Siri architecture in 2024, highlighting features such as improved personalization, onscreen awareness and deeper interaction between apps. The company has said those capabilities will arrive sometime in 2026, and a fall launch would still fall within that timeframe.

If the current schedule holds, Bloomberg’s report suggests the updated Siri experience and Apple’s smart home hub could debut alongside the next major version of iOS expected in late 2026.

Apple is reportedly working on other smart home products, including an advanced version of the smart home display with a robotic arm, a security camera, a new Apple TV, and more.
