Airzone has broadened its compatibility with Josh.ai, adding a new integration with the Aidoo Pro Hub that comes as a follow-up to Airzone’s Aidoo Pro integration.
What the Aidoo Pro Hub Integration Brings to Josh.ai
The most immediate change introduced with the Aidoo Pro Hub integration is that this serves as Airzone’s commercial-grade gateway, offering greater flexibility in multizone solutions, with dual wireless and Ethernet connectivity being added, as well.
The integration also adds BACnet and Modbus integration for building-wide visibility and management on the property owner side.
While the scale changes, the control remains the same, though. Users of the Josh.ai platform can still control their climate through the Josh.app, using contextual voice commands, preset scenes and custom automations.
The Trouble with HVAC Systems
There’s a familiar rhythm to how HVAC gets incorporated into projects. It starts with wanting to give occupants a little more control over their environment before integrators run up against the challenges these systems entail. While it’s surmountable in most cases, in situations like with inverter, multizone and VRF systems, it can come at a cost.
Without getting too much into the weeds, HVAC units historically have not been designed, nor are they usually designed, with smart home control systems in mind, meaning they can have a pretty difficult time communicating with one another.
Getting them to speak on “similar terms” can often come at the cost of losing features. For inverter HVACs—as an example—this means losing the very thing that makes people want inverter HVACs in the first place: their efficiency. In order to communicate properly with control systems, these units often have to revert to an “all-or-nothing” operation.
