Advanced AI has made its way into the enterprise sector and business world, but it has yet to make a sizable impact on the home and custom home electronics space. One of a few exceptions is Amazon, which is bringing several AI features to Alexa and Fire TV, including a new AI-enhanced search in Fire TV designed to make it easy for consumers to find things to watch using natural language.
According to Amazon, Fire TV’s new AI-enhanced search allows users to ask Alexa to search for streaming content recommendations the same way they would ask a friend with extensive knowledge about TV shows and movies. Using “complex and nuanced language,” users can ask for content based on topic, genre, plot, character, actor and even by quotes.
Amazon lists several examples of this, including:
- “Alexa, show me movies about dog and human friendships.”
- “Show me psychological thrillers with surprise endings.”
- “What movie has the line, ‘You’re killing me Smalls?’”
The Seattle-based tech giant says the new Fire TV search experience is powered by an Amazon-built large language model designed solely for this purpose. Recommendations are contextual and personalized to the users, including choices from Prime Video and other subscription libraries.
This is rolling out to Fire TV devices running FOS6 or later and will be available on all eligible Fire TV devices in the U.S. in the coming weeks, Amazon says.
