C&E Marketing, an independent rep firm based in Dania, Fla., snagged some major rep awards at CEDIA Expo. Both Autonomic and Dana Innovations (Sonance, TruFig, iPort) named the company 2014 Rep of the Year. In addition, C&E's own Wayne Augustin (holding the black box) won Dana's 2014 Individual Rep of the year award. Principal Mike Sajecki (holding the speaker) stood there and looked pretty.

Longtime custom A/V retailer Joseph Louis Brown II "Brownie", 87, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 14, 2014. Brown was the founder of Home Entertainment Inc. that eventually grew to have 10 locations in Houston and Dallas. His exploits included a stint as a geologist before founding his own record store called "Disc Count House" in Houston. He later founded Home Entertainment Inc. in 1957. Brown sold the company in 1999. In addition, he also founded Industrial Audio Video, Inc. an affiliate of Home Entertainment in 1971. An avid golfer and fisherman, Brown was known for his integrity, dignity and generosity. He served as a business mentor to many.

He is survived by his wife Marie Brown, daughters Erin Brown and Julie McMahon, son in law Kevin McMahon, of Houston, as well as five grandchildren: Joe, Gwyneth, David, Lillian and Genevieve McMahon who adored him and loved spending time with their grandfather. They will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Louis Brown, III (Louis).

Cummiskey brings over 25 years of experience in both the consumer and commercial connected-security and monitoring markets at ADT Security Services. His deep experience includes managing, securing and growing some of the largest and most strategic global Fortune 500 accounts.

Clare Controls, a manufacturer of home automation solutions has announced the addition of Aldo Filippelli as national sales manager. In his new position Filippelli will work closely with Brian Dietsch, Clare’s vice president of business development to build and support comprehensive sales operations across all U.S. territories.

Custom Plus Distributing is one of 11 members of the Catalyst AV distributor network that serves the residential and commercial A/V electronics markets.

The DaVinci Group announces the addition of industry veteran John Turchintz to its sales force as regional sales manager. Turchintz brings more than 15 years of industry experience that includes AVAD, Jarmac Group and most recently as the General Manager of Sound & Vision, the A/V Division for Crane Appliance.

In other news, the company has named two new rep firms for its TDG Audio, TDG Design Studio, Vanguard Dynamics and Blue Aura wireless products. Cinema di Cuore will cover the Southern California area, while CSP Marketing will cover Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Da-Lite has announced several territory updates in the company’s Pro AV Sales Team.

Geoff Gibbs joins the Da-Lite sales team from Intuit where he most recently worked in sales. Gibbs will be based in Virginia and he will be responsible for all sales, training, consultant and architect activities in Virginia, Delaware and Maryland.

Derek McClusky has been promoted to simulation and visualization sales manager, and will be based in Florida. Lee Andrews has been promoted to sales manager for the Southern region, and will be based in North Carolina.

Former Nortek (Nasdaq: NTK) CEO Richard Bready, is hosting a fundraiser for President Obama tonight at Seafair, his Newport, R.I., home. The Providence Journal reports that tickets for the event range from $15,000 to $32,000 and that about 60 people are expected to attend.

The Journal reports an aide says, besides Mr. Obama himself, expected speakers are Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi, DCCC Chairman Steve Israel, U.S. Representatives James Langevin and David Cicilline, Bready and Easton.

Among other guests will be U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, Rhode Island House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello, Rhode Island Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, Newport Mayor Harry Winthrop and Central Falls Mayor James A. Diossa.

No word on whether Obama plans to visit Casterville, the Providence home of Kimberly Lancaster of the PR firm Caster Communications.

QMotion Advanced Shading Systems has announced the addition of Marc Kihlstrand as plant manager and the promotion of Shane Silloway to national account sales manager. As plant manager, Kihlstrand will oversee all production lines, and he will be responsible for ensuring all products are produced within lead times. Previously, Kihlstrand served as the director of engineering for Lafayette Interior Fashion in West Lafayette, Ind.

Silloway previously served as QMotion's plant manager, and in his new role with the company he will be responsible for developing and establishing QMotion automated shading systems as window treatment solutions for national chains and franchises. Silloway has 25 years of industry experience.

SupplyStream, an aggregator of custom installation products and suppliers, has appointed Joe Piccirilli to the company's board of directors. Piccirilli will continue his full-time job as managing director of Rosewater Energy Group, a maker of energy storage products.

Piccirilli, formerly managing director of AVAD, says: “Not since my days with AVAD have I seen such an opportunity to radically improve the way dealers purchase products in the CE industry” says Piccirilli. “The industry is in need of modern technology that can help distributors and manufacturers stay relevant in the ‘Amazonified’ world to which dealers are now accustomed. It’s a massive undertaking to modernize an industry but this team has it figured out. I love solving big problems, which is what drew me to SupplyStream.”

Earlier this month, SupplyStream hired Lawrence Davis as VP business development and supplier relations. Clare Controls, a home automation system manufacturer has announced the addition of Joel Rieger and David Drab and as senior level product managers.

Rieger brings more than 18 years of product management experience to Clare with previous career stops at GE Security and ADT. Rieger's duties with Clare will be to assist in the growth and development of the company's product portfolio, which includes IP video surveillance, HD media distribution, and multiroom/surround audio amplification products.

Drab has nearly three decades of experience developing telecommunication and Internet products. As senior product marketing manager at Cisco Systems, he helped lead the development of the Cisco IP Managed Services Gateway, which is the basis of AT&T’s Digital Life panel. His responsibilities for Clare include the company's automation products portfolio, including its growing family of CLIQ controllers.

Brian Wiser has been named president of sales – North America for Bosch Security Systems, Inc. In this position, he will lead the sales, support, training, customer service and marketing organizations in North America. Joining Bosch in August, Wiser will replace Jeremy Hockham, who will take on a new assignment for Bosch in Europe, effective October 1, 2014. In the interim, Wiser, Hockham and the Bosch management team will work together to ensure a smooth transition for customers.

Wiser joins Bosch with more than 25 years of channel sales and marketing experience. He most recently served as a senior vice president for specialty, direct and consumer markets in North America for technology distributor Ingram Micro Inc.

In his new role, Pultorak will be responsible for formulating, recommending and executing manufacturing strategies and policies to guide Klein Tools in maintaining and improving its competitive position and profitability. Vivint, Inc., a leading security home automation services provider based in Provo, Utah, has named Joe Albaugh chief security officer. Albaugh brings 20 years of experience to the role, including past positions as chief information security officer for three large, critical infrastructure agencies of the U.S. government. As chief security officer, Albaugh will direct the security strategy and initiatives across all areas of the company.

Before joining Vivint, Albaugh was the chief information security officer for the U.S. Department of Transportation, overseeing the information assurance and cyber security efforts within the department, including more than 440 information systems and 100,000 people. Prior to this role, Albaugh was the chief information security officer for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), where he helped redesign the organization’s cyber security program.

“Joe is an accomplished security executive who has spent his career building sophisticated cyber security teams and programs,” says Alex Dunn, president of Vivint. “His experience across multiple sectors will be a tremendous asset for us as we protect our customers and our business.”

Before joining the FAA, Albaugh was the chief information security officer and acting chief information officer for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, where he managed a more than $400 million global information technology program. He has also served as a senior manager in BearingPoint’s Public Services Solutions Group, where he led the security solution practices for Foreign Affairs and Federal Healthcare.

Projector screen manufacturer Screen Innovations (SI) is moving its Austin, Texas headquarters on August 15, 2014, to a new 73,000 square-foot-facility, tripling the size of its current location. Since Screen Innovations was founded in 2007, the company has experienced an annual compound growth of more than 40%, the company says. The new building, also located in Austin, Texas, will be home to research and development, manufacturing, sales and marketing, and warehouse operations as well as a new, state-of-the-art training center. It can also be expanded to over 100,000 square feet .

Daniel C. Locke, 62, owner of Key Security Systems in Newton, Kan., passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014. He is survived by his wife Ellen Ann, his brothers Duncan and Dwight, his sister Lura Flentie, and a granddaughter and two great grandchildren. Locke was active as an instructor in the Kansas alarm industry.

Locke worked for 25+ years in the security industry, sitting on numerous associations’ boards of directors, both locally and nationally. He helped craft association bylaws, fire codes, state statutes, false alarm ordinances, and other meaningful documents. "He did this, many times, to the detriment of his own company, putting the industry’s needs above his own,” says J. Jordan Brown of Guardtronic Alarms in Little Rock, Ark.

Brad Shipp, executive director of the National Electronic Security Alliance, adds, “I will miss Dan. He was one of the folks who committed lots of time and energy to the industry for long period of time. I think I first met him in 1991 and he had been at it for years at that point. He was always inquisitive and joyful and brought a unique perspective to things. He was always a small company and I know the efforts he put in meant long hours on his part to make up for the time he gave. The Wireless Speaker and Audio Association (WiSA ), an industry group with 30 members dedicated to bringing wireless, surround sound audio products to the home theater market, has announced the appointment of Thomas Lee as the new president. Lee replaces Jim Venable in this position. Lee has a wealth of consumer electronics experience that will help bring speaker and CE manufacturers together to provide advanced wireless audio products to the market. Lee’s resume includes over 30 years of executive management, administration, communications and marketing experience in the technology market sector. He has held management roles at Intel Corporation, Cirrus Logic, as well as several technology start-up companies, providing products to the high volume consumer products market.

John W. Litt, Christie Digital
John Litt has been named Control Room solutions manager, Central region, for Christie Digital Systems. In that role, according to his Linkedin profile, Litt will focus on the business development, account management, and system design for technical solutions involving the Control Room product line portfolio including video wall products, video projection systems, and video wall processors.

Previously, Litt spent four years as an account executive at Whitlock. Prior experience includes serving as general sales manager for the integration firm Wilshire Home Entertainment and director of home control products for Monster Inc. In addition, he owned his own integration firm for nearly 11 years.

Velodyne Acoustics, Inc. has announced a strategic reorganization, naming LiDAR director of manufacturing George Ross to the new post of general manager. Ross will oversee operations for the company’s LiDAR and Audio lines of business. Marta Hall, president of Velodyne, will focus on sales and marketing for the company’s audio division.

The company's organizational shifts also include a consolidation of all product development and operational decisions to Velodyne's home office in Morgan Hill, Calif., to help ensure increased design and quality control of audio products. Clare Controls announces that Brian Dietsch has joined the company as director of business development for its Builder Channel, reporting directly to CEO Brett Price.

Jessica Paskon has been named director of operations for ProSource, the integration, audio and video division of the giant BrandSource buying group. Paskon has been with PRO Group for nearly 10 years as operations manager. Now that PRO Group and Home Entertainment Source (HES) have officially merged, Paskon will take on a larger role as director of operations, including increased operational needs as part of the larger ProSource team.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced the loss of legendary CE engineer Bernie Lechner, whom the organization calls "a pioneer in television and display research" and technical advisor to CEA. CEA chief Gary Shapiro says, "Bernie Lechner is a legend in the television industry. He proved himself as one of the most respected engineering minds during critical eras of television evolution, including the transition to DTV and development of HDTV standards.

“Throughout his outstanding service as an advisor to CEA, Bernie gave so much of himself and always steered us in a positive direction. Bernie’s remarkable contributions to the CE industry will live on, but we will miss him greatly.”

Lechner worked closely with CEA on The DTV Academy, a group of advisors addressing strategic implementation of the digital television (DTV) transition; and the DTV Definitions Technology Working Group, which helped establish terms and standards for DTV and high-definition television (HDTV). He chaired his first CEA standards group in 1980, and later guided the industry on the performance of analog cable-ready TVs and helped usher in the HDTV system we use today.
