Encore Custom AV, winner of CEA’s 2015 Integrator of the Year Award and Best Home Theater, has opened a brand new, state-of-the-art showroom in its headquarters in Sterling, Va.

The 4,500 sq. ft. space has a design center and a high-performance, professional home cinema that includes a Dolby Atmos system, media room and conference room. The space also has an engineering department for testing completed rack builds before they are installed in clients’ homes for quality control. “The purpose of this showroom is to stage events and have architects, builders, and interior designers bring clients so that they can touch, feel, and listen to what we have to offer,” says Ian Williams, president of Encore Custom AV. “It’s a great space for people to learn what Encore is all about, and the level of quality performance we can achieve.”

Atlona, an A/V connectivity solutions company, announced the the appointment of Adam Griffin and Scott Ettinger as regional sales managers. Griffin will serve as Northeast regional sales manager for the commercial market, while Ettinger will act as Eastern regional sales manager for the residential sector. Both bring extensive backgrounds in sales in the A/V
and CE industries.

Atlona, an A/V connectivity solutions company, announced the appointment of Joel Carroll and Deborah McClain as regional commercial sales managers. Carroll will serve as Southeast regional manager, and McClain will manage the company’s Western region.


Former CEA TechHome Division board member Skip Lockrem has joined electronics distributor Petra Industries as regional sales manager in the Midwest. Most recently, Lockrem was with Manna Freight Systems, which offers a white-glove delivery service under the banner Last Mile Home.

Atlantic Technology has announced as of Feb., 1, SF Marketing Inc. (SFM) of Montreal will be the exclusive distributor for its high-performance music, home theater, and in-wall loudspeakers in Canada.

"Steven Freytag and his custom installation solutions team are among the most experienced in Canada," says Peter Tribeman, Atlantic Technology’s founder and president. "Their technical knowledge, understanding of the market and most importantly, their good relationships with Canadian dealers and integrators will be a perfect fit for Atlantic Technology. Focusrite Novation Inc., the wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of the U.K.-based manufacturer Focusrite Audio Engineering Ltd., announces several new appointments. The announcement was made by Phil Wagner, president of Focusrite Novation Inc., and the appointments were made to support the brands' ongoing growth and expansion in the U.S.

Industry veteran Michael Prager has joined Focusrite Novation Inc. as Focusrite national sales manager. Prager comes to Focusrite with years of experience in pro audio. He was most recently with Adam Audio as their director of sales. Prior to that, Prager was the Guitar Center recording category manager.

Additionally, Nick De Friez has been appointed Novation’s sales manager. Prior to joining Novation, De Friez worked for the DJ audio software company Serato.

Kramer Electronics has appointed Michael DiBella to the position of director of collaborative solutions. In this role DiBella will be responsible for the business development of the company's VIA wireless collaboration product line, as well as the support of the products.

DiBella brings more than 20 years of experience to the position. Prior to joining Kramer, DiBella previously worked in the Pro A/V market for Crestron Electronics.

The Hayward, Calif.-based high-performance loudspeaker manufacturer MAGICO has announced that Peter Mackay has been hired as the company's new vice president, global sales & marketing. Mackay will be responsible for overseeing all sales and marketing activities in North American and abroad. Mackay will work with will Trent Suggs, Magico's North American sales director to maximize sales and provide elevated service to the company's retailers.

One Firefly, LLC, a service provider of marketing, design, engineering, and programming solutions to home technology and commercial system integrators, has promoted Ami Wright to the position of director of sales & marketing.

In her new role as director of sales & marketing, Wright will be responsible for leading worldwide marketing and sales efforts of all company services to ensure goals are achieved on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. She will be responsible for the building and management of an expanded sales team and guide the company’s overall marketing and customer acquisition initiatives, which include new affiliate and partner programs with electronics industry manufacturers, reps, distributors, and buying groups.

ADI now operates as a global organization. To support its global efforts the company has updated its leadership team to further ensure its growth, vision and business strategies.

To drive its global initiatives, it has named Andy Morra, who has served as the vice president of marketing for ADI Americas for the past three years, to the position of vice president of global marketing for ADI Global Distribution. As part of ADI’s global leadership team, he will lead all marketing initiatives across the Americas, EMEA and India.

In addition, Marco Cardazzi, who has served as ADI's U.S. senior product manager for video surveillance at ADI for the past four years, has been named as the company's vice president of marketing for ADI North America. In his new role, Cardazzi will be responsible for driving all marketing strategies across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

Autonomic, a manufacturer of whole-house music systems, has announced the addition of Krista Bergman-Haughey as director of sales, Western region.

Based out of Orange County, Calif., Bergman-Haughey, a 20-year industry veteran will be responsible for the Rocky Mountain region along with the Western states of the U.S. Her role will include establishing and maintaining a carefully selected network of integrators that can effectively represent Autonomic’s Mirage Music Players, multizone amplifiers and accessories. She will be working directly with and reporting to Autonomic’s director of global sales Aaron Chisena.

SpringDeck has selected Aim High Audio, a respected rep firm for manufacturers in the custom electronics industry to bring SpringDeck to the Southeastern region of the United States and Florida. JL Audio, has appointed Robert Haynes to the position of product trainer. In his new role, Hayes will support JL Audio’s home, mobile, and marine audio markets to dealers and JL Audio’s independent sales rep organizations.

Previously, Haynes was with Rydeen North America where he developed dealer training and social media marketing programs for dealers. Hayes also has retail experience working for dealers Al & Ed’s Autosound and Car Toys.

Detroit based iRule, LLC announces Amy Jalili as director of marketing for iRule and On Controls. On Controls is a manufacturer of cloud-based control and automation system for custom integration dealers.

Jalili began her career in real estate, finance, and technology, transitioning to commercial real estate in 2010. She most recently led the creation and implementation of cross-channel strategic marketing solutions, digital advertising and communications as director of marketing for Farbman Group in Southfield, Mich.


Custom home entertainment and control systems contractor Room Service Home Technologies has received the annual WELDer of the Year award from WELD2 of Bellevue, WA. WELD2 bestows the award on the firm they feel exemplifies excellence in the custom electronics installation business. Founded in 2013 by Frank White and Barry Scovel, WELD2 provides marketing services to custom integrators.

Room Service CMO Ann Allen says, “Personally, I think it’s the best marketing effort we have going for us. WELD2 came to us at a perfect time; we were brainstorming ways to stay in front of our clients (of 20 years) in a relevant manner without getting 'techie' and coming across like a standard industry blog."

David Cesar has joined Savant as area sales manager for the Midwest and Ohio River Valley. Cesar most recently served as business development manager for Traka, a commercial access control division of Assa Abloy. Prior to that, he was a regional commercial business development manager for URC and spent four years at AMX culminating in his role as U.S. director of residential sales. Earlier experience includes sales positions at Crestron, Performance Plus Marketing, Abt Electronics and Flanner's Audio Video.
In recognition of the outstanding contributions he has made to building CI channel sales throughout the Southwest, Core Brands, LLC announced the immediate promotion of Gordon Isaac from Southwest region sales manager, to national director of CI channel sales, reporting directly to Core Brands vice president of Sales Jeff Costello.

The Fairless Hills, Pa.-based consumer electronics retailer Audiolab has named industry veteran Bill Buch as vice president of purchasing and e-commerce.

The 57-year-old retailer says Buch brings with him more than a decade's worth of experience as a former vice president of Worldwide Stereo, where he was involved in that company's audio, video, custom installation, 12 volt and portable electronics business activities.

Terra Loudspeakers, the Brunswick, Maine-based manufacturer of all-climate loudspeakers, has expanded it manufacturing facility and added staff to bolster its sales and marketing reach. To accommodate demand, the Brunswick-based company has doubled its production facilities and staff. After 15 years, the company is also updating its products and expanding into new markets.

The Wireless Speaker and Audio (WiSA) Association, an industry group dedicated to bringing high resolution, wireless, multichannel audio products to the home theater market, announces that the electronics module products manufacturer, LG Innotek, an affiliate of LG Group, has joined the group.

LG Innotek is one of the largest manufacturers of module level products for the consumer electronics and automotive industries, generating more than $5 billion in annual revenues. LG is developing an enhanced product line of fully WiSA compliant wireless audio transmitter and receiver products, designed to be integrated into televisions, AVRs, soundbars, speaker products and other high volume, multichannel consumer audio applications.

Sharp Electronics Corporation has announced that Jim Sanduski has been promoted to the position of president of Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America (SEMCA). Prior to the announcement Sanduski had been serving as the interim president for the company, and the company adds that he has been with Sharp for three years serving as senior vice president of strategic product marketing.

Before working for Sharp, Sanduski's previous career stops include Panasonic, Hewlett-Packard and Samsung.


St. Louis-based Skywalker AV Supply is set to open a new West Coast facility in Phoenix, Ariz. Scheduled to open on Feb. 1, the new 13,000-square-foot office will service the company's West Coast clientele, and its address 4215 East Broadway, Phoenix, AZ 85040.

Overseeing the Phoenix facility is long-time industry veteran Jamie Trentacoste. Trentacoste is a 20-year consumer electronics veteran and he will be responsible for the management of Skywalker's newest office.
Michael Pawlowski, vice president of the rep firm Atlantic Integrated, has been elected to the 2015-2016 IPRO (Independent Professional Representative Organization) board of directors. At 35 years old, Pawlowski becomes the youngest rep principal elected to the board of directors in the 26-year history of the organization. Krell Industries, LLC, developer of high-performance audio and home theater systems, has appointed John Milton as the new Western regional sales manager. Milton joins Krell from BitWise Controls, where he served as director of sales for three years. Milton began his A/V career with ListenUp in 1991 as field installation manager. As Krell's regional sales manager, John's responsibilities will include monitoring and participating in sales activities from the Rocky Mountains to the greater West Coast region.

Graybar, a distributor of electrical, communications and data networking products, and provider of related supply-chain management and logistics services, announced that Robert C. Lyons and David G. Maxwell have been appointed regional vice presidents, effective Jan., 1, 2015.

A 35-year Graybar veteran, Lyons currently serves as senior vice president-North America business. In his new role, Lyons will be responsible for the company’s Tampa, Atlanta, Richmond, New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago and St. Louis districts. Maxwell is currently district vice president in Graybar’s California district and has worked at Graybar for 29 years. In his new assignment, he will oversee the California, Dallas, Minneapolis, Seattle and Phoenix districts. Both Lyons and Maxwell are members of Graybar’s board of directors.

In addition, Richard T. Birkett has been named district vice president in California, replacing Maxwell on Jan., 1, 2015. Birkett currently serves as district vice president in St. Louis, and hw has more than 34 years of experience with Graybar. Danna N. Ellison will take over as district vice president in St. Louis. Ellison currently serves as vice president-strategic accounts, overseeing business development, service and support for Graybar’s large, multi-site and global customers. She joined Graybar earlier this year and has more than 15 years of industry experience, most recently with Gexpro, a division of Rexel Holdings USA.

The Chamberlain Group, Inc. (CGI) has appointed Brad Opel to the position of executive vice president, consumer retail---Americas. In his new role Opel is responsible for building the Chamberlain and Heath Zenith brands across the Americas.

Opel joined CGI in 2010 and most recently served as vice president, new business development. As executive vice president he will lead the company’s do-it-yourself products including, high-performance garage door openers, smartphone-enabled garage and lighting products, and motion-activated home devices, all designed for safety and reliability.

Effective immediately, RC Audio Video Marketing Service has taken over the Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and the Nebraska.territories for representation of the Canadian A/V brands. Paradigm and Anthem point out that even though the firm is a new business, they have worked with long time A/V Rep, Randy Corey for many years.

ADI announced that Michael Flink has been named president of ADI Global. ADI, part of the Honeywell Security Group (HSG), will operate as a global organization, and Flink will lead all ADI businesses across the Americas, EMEA and India. He will continue to report to HSG President Ron Rothman.

Atlona, an AV connectivity solutions company has announced the appointment of Garth Lobban as senior marketing manager. Lobban brings an extensive background in A/V marketing following 11 years with Extron Electronics, most recently as manager of product marketing.

Channel Vision, a manufacturer of security devices, wall plates and other solutions has announced the addition of Bobby Russo as its vice president of sales. Russo will be responsible for overseeing Channel Vision’s sales department, its international distributors and our manufacturer representatives across the United States.

The Catalyst AV distribution network (specialty AV solutions, serving CEDIA channel) member-company HCA Distributing (Rocky Mountains territory) has opened a branch in Salt Lake City. This represents the second location for Denver-based HCA. HCA Principal Ron Perron points out there is significant new home building occurring within the region and it is helping to drive local custom installation sales.

The Catalyst AV network is currently comprised of 11-member (individually owned) companies.

SnapAV, a Charlotte-based manufacturer for the residential and commercial channels, recently held a grand opening for its new office in Taipei, Taiwan. The new office will facilitate relationships with SnapAV’s overseas vendors and will serve as an extension of its engineering, quality, and product development departments.

“We’re thrilled to open this new location,” notes David Moore, vice president of engineering for SnapAV. “In previous trips to Asia, I would travel for days to visit with vendors all over the place. Our new office will help us to be more efficient and focused in our vendor relations so we can place a greater emphasis on creating higher-quality, more innovative products.”

The grand opening reception took place at the new office in the Manhattan district of Taipei. In attendance were SnapAV’s new Taipei team, led by Jerry Hsaio, vice president of Asia operations, as well as several Charlotte employees, including Moore and company CEO, Craig Craze. The team also celebrated with several vendor partners that were in attendance. “We’re dedicated to strengthening our relationships with our partners and are excited to work even closer with them,” adds Moore.

The Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA) has announced Leon Shaw, owner of North Carolina-based Audio Advice, and current vice president of the HTSA board of directors, has been selected to fulfill the role as 2015 president.

Shaw originally started Audio Advice in 1978 and over the years the company has developed into one of the top custom installation firms in the country. With 2014 drawing to a close, Shaw says he is ready to accept the challenge of leading the buying group into the new year. "It's been a pleasure serving as a member of the HTSA board of directors; I am looking forward to continuing to serve as president at the start of 2015," he says. "HTSA is comprised of true talent, knowledge and experience; together as an organization we are helping to increase awareness for home technology as well as empowering the skilled professionals who make up this network. Custom loudspeaker manufacturer Triad Speakers, Inc. announced the appointment of the NuTech Group as its new independent sales representative in the mid-Atlantic region. Based in Pennsylvania and Virginia, NuTech is a 25-year-old company that specializes in the custom installation and custom retail channels.

THIEL Audio has announced the addition of Dennis Crosson as director of engineering and Gavin Bence, audio engineer, as THIEL expands the scope and capability of its engineering department.

Crosson's previous industry experience includes time with respected brands such as PSB, JBL and Klipsch before joining THIEL, and Bence has a degree in electrical engineering from Drexel University and has experience as an engineering intern for Indy Audio Labs and Koss.

Platinum Tools, a Newbury Park, Calif.-based manufacturer of hand termination and cable and wiring testing products has relocated to a larger facility. Longtime custom A/V retailer Joseph Louis Brown II "Brownie", 87, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 14, 2014. Brown was the founder of Home Entertainment Inc. that eventually grew to have 10 locations in Houston and Dallas. His exploits included a stint as a geologist before founding his own record store called "Disc Count House" in Houston. He later founded Home Entertainment Inc. in 1957. Brown sold the company in 1999. In addition, he also founded Industrial Audio Video, Inc. an affiliate of Home Entertainment in 1971. An avid golfer and fisherman, Brown was known for his integrity, dignity and generosity. He served as a business mentor to many.

He is survived by his wife Marie Brown, daughters Erin Brown and Julie McMahon, son in law Kevin McMahon, of Houston, as well as five grandchildren: Joe, Gwyneth, David, Lillian and Genevieve McMahon who adored him and loved spending time with their grandfather. They will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Louis Brown, III (Louis).

Geoff Gibbs joins the Da-Lite sales team from Intuit where he most recently worked in sales. Gibbs will be based in Virginia and he will be responsible for all sales, training, consultant and architect activities in Virginia, Delaware and Maryland.
Andrew Packer has been promoted to sales consultant for the Pro AV team. Packer has been with Da-Lite for six years in various roles including inside sales, shipping and manufacturing. Parker's new duties include training, consultant and architect activities in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Derek McClusky has been promoted to simulation and visualization sales manager, and will be based in Florida. Lee Andrews has been promoted to sales manager for the Southern region, and will be based in North Carolina.

Former Nortek (Nasdaq: NTK) CEO Richard Bready, is hosting a fundraiser for President Obama tonight at Seafair, his Newport, R.I., home. The Providence Journal reports that tickets for the event range from $15,000 to $32,000 and that about 60 people are expected to attend.

The Journal reports an aide says, besides Mr. Obama himself, expected speakers are Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi, DCCC Chairman Steve Israel, U.S. Representatives James Langevin and David Cicilline, Bready and Easton.

Among other guests will be U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, Rhode Island House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello, Rhode Island Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, Newport Mayor Harry Winthrop and Central Falls Mayor James A. Diossa.
