As you pack your toothbrush, laptop, and underwear to head to San Diego, don't forget to bring a light bulb. That's right… lighting system maker Noon Home (Booth #835) is inviting integrators to bring a light bulb to CEDIA Expo 2018 to showcase how the company's “automatic bulb-detection technology” works.
The Cupertino, Calif.-based company is making its debut at the CEDIA Expo 2018 with its new smart lighting system and light switches that look different from any switches integrators have ever seen before.
The patented “automatic bulb-detection technology” enables the system to do automated lighting design using advanced algorithms that determine dimming levels by reading the electric current generated by light sources.
Aesthetically, the super-thin switches themselves physically “float” out from the faceplates and instead of aiming to blend into the wall, they are designed to visually stand out. The “switch” itself is a single-gang touchpanel, but the system comes in configurations as large as four-gang.
CEO Erik Charlton, whose previous positions include the head of product marketing at Logitech and head of marketing, product marketing and sales at Nest, spoke with CE Pro about the company's innovative lighting system.
CE Pro: What would you say to dealers who are stumbling across your company for the first time?
“Noon is the first smart lighting system that's actually smart. Our switches wirelessly communicate with each other to automatically create customized coordinated light in beautiful, complementary levels.”

What would you say to dealers who are already familiar with your product line?
“Smart design and programming are ingrained in every aspect of Noon and so we’re thrilled to be showcasing new offerings this CEDIA. We’ve been busy since launching last October and have been steadily adding new a suite of new integrations and product updates.
“For example, Noon is recently compatible with LIFX, Wi-Fi-enabled smart bulbs — allowing Noon owners to experience control of additional lights (like lamps) in their scenes.
“We also recently announced a set of 48 unique icons — giving users the power to personalize their home both with customizable lighting and switch icons to match specific activities like cleaning, studying, movie night and more. Be sure to swing by our booth to see our latest features in action!”
If a dealer/integrator stops by your booth with only 5 minutes to spare, what’s the one product he should examine or one question he should ask?
“Check out how Noon coordinates all the lights in a room with its touchscreen Room Director switch and companion Extension Switches. We may also have something new to share…”
Think of your closest competitor (company or product). What is one thing you offer that they don’t?
“The Noon Lighting System automatically provides customized coordinated lighting at a fraction of the cost — no bulky hub or a lighting programmer needed.”
