Exterior autonomous shades that block heat before it hits the glass, preserving views and boosting profits.

Exterior shading presents a significant opportunity for custom integrators to solve common client challenges related to heat gain and glare. In a recent discussion with CE Pro, Steve Brous, National Sales Manager at Sol-Lux, detailed the company’s EOS system—an autonomous, exterior-mounted retractable shade designed to deliver superior interior comfort and energy efficiency.

Sol-Lux designed EOS to stop solar energy before it hits the window. This approach is up to 20% more effective at reducing heat gain than interior shades. It accomplishes this while preserving natural light and the homeowner’s view, a key advantage over traditional solutions.

The EOS system operates autonomously 365 days a year, extending and retracting based on sunlight. While it works out of the box, an associated app allows for fine-tuning, giving users control over sun thresholds and wind sensitivity to optimize performance for their specific location. This smart functionality is housed in a highly customizable package, with over 150 case colors and 70 Sunbrella fabrics to complement any home’s exterior design.

For integrators, the EOS system is engineered for a simple and profitable installation. It uses a French cleat mounting system and is completely wireless, with a typical install time of just 30 to 45 minutes. Shims and all necessary hardware are included. Units are available in sizes from 39 to 120 inches and ship in about four weeks.

EOS provides a problem-solving solution for rooms with intense morning or afternoon sun, making it a valuable addition to any integrator’s portfolio. It complements Sol-Lux’s other exterior products, like the Freedom and Mirage patio awnings, offering a complete and profitable outdoor shading business opportunity.
