From the outset, the St. Regis penthouse project presented several unique technical challenges to the team at Wicked Smart Homes. Due to the building’s radius, approximately 50% of the shade pockets required curved construction. Compounding the complexity, every opening incorporated dual treatment layers, pairing sheer and blackout solutions for optimal light control and privacy.
Achieving a flawless finish demanded extremely precise measurements and installation techniques when aligning the drapery tracks across the residence.
The windows themselves frame expansive Gulf of Mexico views from St. Regis with the design language of the penthouse leaning into clean lines with modern accents and very minimal wall clutter. As such, the shading automation within the penthouse is intended to serve a dual purpose: protect the interiors from harsh sunlight while maintaining unobstructed sightlines.
The integration team worked closely with the interior designer, architect and builder from the earliest planning stages, ensuring the shading systems were embedded directly into the architectural framework. This approach ensured minimal intrusion of the shading system onto the environment, with only the drapery visible during operation.
The fact that the entire system is fully integrated into the Lutron control platform means that it can also operate in concert with the lighting, allowing for the setting of bespoke, atmospheric scenes, while also transitioning based on the movements of natural sunlight throughout the day.
The proactive motions of the system itself adds an extra layer of relaxation and comfort to residents as the home is seemingly able to welcome occupants and regulate itself, without much extra thought being required.
Every window features dual shades and custom drapery, allowing the homeowner to effortlessly transition between filtered daylight and complete blackout conditions.
This project also underscores a major trend in high-end residential design, with the integration of layered, motorized window treatments being seen as both a functional necessity and a design statement as its role in lighting design has become more fully realized.
