In an era when voice assistants, remotes and app-based smart-home control dominate systems, Amp Genie has taken a different approach with its latest product.
Designed by longtime custom integrator—and member of the CE Pro All-Star Band–Brian Staller, the device is a signal-sensing, touchless home‑audio receiver controller that can activate a home audio system or AVR automatically upon starting an audio stream.
How the Amp Genie Works
Amp Genie listens for a signal from any connected source — streaming device, turntable, CD player, etc. — and on detection, it automatically powers on the AVR, selects the proper input, adjusts DSP mode and sets the volume to a predetermined level with no app and no networking required.
The compact chassis measures in at 7.75 × 6.25 × 1.1 inches and weighs 11 ounces, supporting standard stereo formats via analog RCA, SPDIF and Toslink optical connections.
On the receiver side, it includes a pre‑programmed IR database covering major AVR brands such as Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Anthem, AudioControl, Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony, and others.
The device also has an optional “auto‑off” feature to power down the receiver after use, saving energy and reducing wear.
Setup is purported to take roughly five minutes, according to Amp Genie, with the device being able to activate associated receivers and home audio systems in just one second. Additionally, the Amp Genie is backed by a 3-year warranty.
