Where's the speaker? That might be the question integrators hear from clients when they show off the new Sony “speakerless TV,” otherwise known as the Bravia OLED 4K TV with Acoustic Surface Technology in which the sound emanates directly from the entire screen itself. While Sony first showed the product at CES 2017 in January, it is not coincidental that Sony President and COO Mike Fasulo unveiled the product for sale at Los Angeles-area custom integrator Just One Touch / Video & Audio Center, a CE Pro 100 company.
The OLED, with price points from $3,998 (55-inch) to $5,498 (65-inch), is targeted squarely in the wheelhouse of the custom installation channel.
The Sony speakerless TV design uses the screen itself in a Bravia OLED 4K TV picture with over 8 million self-illuminating pixels. The first Bravia 65-inch and 55-inch OLED 4K Ultra HD TVs were experienced and offered to the public at Video & Audio Center’s Village at Westfield Topanga Store last week.
On hand for the debut were Sony top executives, factory representatives and engineers, Sony Pictures executives and Video & Audio Center management and staff including:
- Mike Fasulo, President and Chief Operating Officer, Sony Electronics, Inc.
- Philip Jones, Product Technology Manager, Sony Electronics, Inc.
- Joseph Akhtarzad and Mayer Akhtarzad, Video & Audio Center, Co-Owners
- Tom Campbell, Corporate Director, Technologist
Press in attendance were shown scenes from the upcoming motion picture, Spiderman Homecoming, which opens in theaters July 7. The sound is produced using small actuators that are attached to the back of the OLED screen. They vibrate the panel itself to produce sound. The TV also includes a small built-in subwoofer. The display also includes a 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) X1 processor for an expanded palate of colors and deeper colors on 4K video.
According to Campbell, Just One Touch / Video & Audio Center already had 300 pre-orders for the new TVs. The Santa Monica-based company recently landed the No. 4 spot on the CE Pro 100 list of the top custom integration companies in North America. The company is the largest integrator in California for the 11th straight year.
During the unveiling, CE Pro was given some love from Campbell, the Akhtarzads and Fasulo. Check out the video.
