IKEA is launching 21 new smart home products focused on lighting, sensors, and control, all built to work with the Matter standard. The launch represents a ground-up rebuild of the company’s smart home system, aimed at improving ease of use, affordability, and interoperability with other brands.
According to Ikea, the new product range is the result of years of development and is designed to provide the building blocks for a flexible and intuitive smart home. All Matter-enabled products require a smart home hub, such as IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub or one from another brand.
The new IKEA smart home line isn’t expected to make an impact in the custom installation market, but the launch is in line with a few trend we’ve been tracking: simplicity, new connectivity standards like Matter, and a one-stop-shop approach to smart home ecosystems.
“Until now, smart home technology hasn’t been easy enough to use for most people — or affordable enough for many to consider,” says David Granath, Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden. “This launch brings us closer to helping everyone feel ready and confident to get started.”
Ikea’s Updated Smart Home Range
The updated range focuses on three key segments: lighting, sensors, and control.
Lighting
IKEA is introducing the KAJPLATS smart bulb range, which includes eleven variations. Compared to the previous TRÅDFRI line, the new bulbs offer more functionality, including more color options and broader light intensity spans. All are dimmable.
- E27/E26: Standard globe shape (60mm) in 1055 lm color/white spectrum, 470 lm white spectrum, 1055 lm white spectrum, and 1521 lm white spectrum.
- P45 E14/E12/E17: Compact profile (45mm) in 470 lm white spectrum, 806 lm white spectrum, and 806 lm color/white spectrum.
- GU10: Directional spotlight in 470 lm color/white spectrum and 575 lm white spectrum.
- Decorative Clear-Glass: White spectrum only, available in E14 (470 lm), E27 standard globe (470 lm), and E27 large globe (810 lm).
Sensors
Five new smart sensors are being released to monitor home conditions and automate responses.
- MYGGSPRAY: A motion sensor for indoor or outdoor use to trigger lighting.
- MYGGBETT: A door/window sensor that can trigger notifications or scenes.
- TIMMERFLOTTE: A sensor that measures and displays indoor temperature and humidity.
- ALPSTUGA: An air quality sensor that measures CO₂, particles (PM2.5), temperature, and humidity. It is built to work with IKEA air purifiers and can also display the time.
- KLIPPBOK: A water leakage sensor that provides an audible alert and can send a mobile notification when connected to a hub.
Control
New remotes and a smart plug round out the launch. IKEA says the BILRESA remote control is available in two main styles: a dual-button version and a scroll-wheel model for dimming and scene adjustment. Both are available in kits of three with green, red, and beige color options.
The GRILLPLATS smart plug can turn conventional lamps or small appliances into smart products. It also tracks energy use and can be paired with a remote or motion sensor.
Ecosystem and Matter
According to IKEA, the integration of Matter is a central pillar of the new range. IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub acts as a certified Matter controller, enabling it to manage smart products from other manufacturers. It also functions as a Matter Bridge, allowing existing non-Matter IKEA smart products to become compatible with platforms using the Matter standard.
“Our focus has been on keeping things simple from setup to daily use, so it’s easy for people to start, use and grow a smart home,” says Stjepan Begic, Product Developer at IKEA of Sweden.
