Featured Install: The Greenville Penthouse

Published: November 5, 2019

Scott Sisk of Home Tech Theater and Automation was presented with an opportunity to update a former client’s automation system with larger tv monitors and a switch out to DISH service, in a unique setting.

The Greenville penthouse is situated atop a 12 story office building, integrating DISH service with an Elan home automation system. This opportunity came about due to the relationship Scott maintained with the interior designer who was tasked to refresh this client’s home, and his past experience in installing the initial system for the client.

As part of the upgrade project, Home Tech was called upon to upgrade 4 televisions to larger sizes, including one 10-foot screen that was supported by an LG Ultra Short Throw projector.

“The client’s main objective was to gain the best picture quality and the best user interface in the upgrade,” stated Scott. When we brought DISH into the equation, the client was delighted with the picture as well as the ability to multiplex to four images, and were also delighted with the two-way integration with the Elan controller that yielded a better control experience displaying the DISH User Guide.

DISH powers a unique penthouse atop a 12 story office building

One of the challenges of the install was the placement of the dish reflector atop the 12-story building, with nearby tall buildings. The penthouse enjoys an outdoor patio where the dish reflector was ideally situated, in an area that was camouflaged with cement fascia. After consulting with building management, Scott was able to ground the dish with the steel frame structure on the roof, protecting against any lightning strikes.

A unique feature of Scott’s install included the integration of two additional technology features: a cloud-controlled Araknis switch that could be remotely monitored and reset if needed, removing any need for a truck roll; and an OvrC-enabled Wattbox surge protector to enable remote monitoring and reset capable power supply for the DISH equipment, to ensure reliable service in a lightning-prone setting atop this skyscraper in downtown Greenville. These technologies were tied to the Elan controller to ensure both client and integrator remote monitoring and reset capabilities. Scott has enjoyed success with this technology and now incorporates it into all of his DISH installations.

Scott has since enjoyed working with DISH on other projects and is now preparing a 22-room project for the largest equestrian center in the country.
