Crestron has been a market leader for decades within the home technology industry, and a year ago it solidified its position as a benchmark manufacturer when it introduced its Home platform.

With the first year of Home control and automation platform in the books John Clancy, vice president, residential, Crestron Electronics, says that over the past six months the way that consumers view the world has changed due to the impact of COVID-19.  Clancy notes that simultaneously Home quickly matured to support the array of requirements homeowners have now placed on these systems that include work from home (WFH) demands.

Clancy points out that Crestron pivoted quickly to integrate many of the solutions its commercial division provides the business world into its Home platform to enable residential integrators to incorporate Crestron conferencing systems into their clients’ systems without the typical pain points of adding new technologies.

“So, first and foremost, you know that Crestron Home is now a one-year-old product … it’s something we talked about a lot, and it’s evolved a ton since we launched its. The plan for CEDIA Virtual is to show off how far it’s come that first year, and [provide] a little bit of insight as to where it’s headed in the next year as well,” states Clancy.

Some of the ways Crestron is removing those pain points includes remote configuration and monitoring capabilities that allows the company to support its dealers in ways that would not have been possible in the past.

Emphasizing just how important WFH is in 2020 and beyond, Clancy says conferencing is more than simply working from home, it’s now a way for people to communicate whether they are working, learning or socializing.

“[Our] second item would be [focusing] around home conferencing and that’s the term we use because it supersedes just working from home; its learning from home and socializing from home. It is all of these things that have changed during the past six months that have become a big focus for us,” he comments.

“We know that we’re in a unique spot because of the commercial side of our business and bringing a lot of those products into the residential space certainly puts us in a unique spot, and we have a lot to talk about there as well.”
