Oppo Digital Releases UDP-205 4K Ultra HD HDR Blu-ray Disc Player
Oppo Digital prioritizes audiophile grade audio performance and reference quality video with its UDP-205 Blu-ray player, complete with 4K Ultra HD, HDR10 and an update coming for Dolby Vision.
Oppo Digital has announced its UDP-205 4K Ultra HD Audiophile Blu-ray Disc Player. Offering many of the same features as its existing UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Disc Player — including the ability to play Ultra HD 4K discs, Blu rays, DVDs, DVD-Audio, SACDs and CDs — the UDP-205 is also HDR friendly.
The new player works with HDR10 content, is field upgradeable to support the Dolby Vision HDR format, and offers dual HDMI outputs — a HDMI 2.0 to support 4K Ultra HD content, and an HDMI 1.4 output for audio.
Another thing that differentiates the new product is its "reference level audio performance and reference quality video with HDR," says Oppo. The 4K Ultra HD disc player employs analog outputs, improved digital clocking of the HDMI audio output, and increased headphone amplifier power. Oppo explains the analog output stages utilize two flagship ESS Sabre Pro Series ES90338PRO DACs (digital-to-analog converters).
Oppo says that since stereo is a big part of the new product, the UDP-205 disc player provides stereo and 7.1 analog output options. The player also provides a choice of XLR (balanced) and RCA (single ended) outputs. A dedicated ES90338PRO DAC is employed for the stereo output and its buffer and driver stages.
UDP-205: More Features, Add-Ons and Specs
Supporting a personal listening experience, the UDP-205 Blu-ray Player provides direct connections to its ESS SABRE PRO DAC for headphone applications.
There's also a USB DAC, a coaxial and an optical digital audio input to allow homeowners to use the product with their other digital sources, including streaming devices and computers.
In addition, the UDP-205 player includes an HDMI 2.0 input to support source devices like cable and satellite set-top boxes (STBs), gaming consoles and video streaming devices.
Oppo Digital points out the USB DAC input supports sample rates up to 768kHz and DSD 512, and it converts coax and optical digital signals to analog.
Other features built into the UDP-205 Universal 4K Ultra HD Disc Player include a high-preciscion HDMI clock, an HDMI audio jitter reduction circuit that improves the sound of PCM and DSD content, and a large toroidal power supply that delivers consistent, clean power.
Externally, the product features a brushed aluminum front panel, doubled-layered metal chassis and four heavy-gauge machined feet. The Blu-ray player carries an MSRP of $1,299.
