Monitor Audio, has announced the launch of the new Vestra Subwoofer Series, an all-new subwoofer series designed to extend Monitor Audio’s independent range of subwoofers within the Home AV and Custom Installation space. According to Monitor, this release is meant to extend flexibility for system designers by enabling broader speaker/system-matching options and wider flexibility regarding budget.

Engineered and developed alongside Monitor Audio’s recently launched, premium Anthra Series Subwoofers, each of the three Vestra Subwoofers—the W10, W12 and W15—include an acoustic package that enables Monitor Audio to deliver on its “Transparent Design Philosophy,” which Monitor says, couples superior design elements, intuitive user-experience and advanced acoustic engineering to help ensure that all the elements of performance, technology and design work in harmony.

Vestra Subwoofers See Revamp of Monitor’s C-CAM Technology

The new Vestra subwoofers utilize Monitor Audio’s proprietary C-CAM cone technology (Ceramic-Coated Aluminum Magnesium), a cone technology that Monitor Audio developed specifically for subwoofers. According to the company, the properties of C-CAM are said to help ensure a more fatigue-resistant, stronger and lighter cone. The cone material is also supposed to offer far greater pistonic movement under extreme stresses over standard aluminum cones.

For the W12 and W15 Vestra subwoofers, those C-CAM cones now have new triple suspension motor systems with uprated venting and larger, round-wound voice coils made of high-purity copper wire set behind them. That suspension, Monitor Audio notes, is meant to deliver greater control and precision under extreme low frequencies, while the venting supports greater airflow to reduce unwanted heat, with the larger voice coil delivering the highest possible BI (field strength). FEA optimization of the steel components also helps linearize the Bl curve—this results in improved consistency of the magnetic field through the gap, which reduces distortion.

Looking at other aspects of the Vestra Subwoofer series drivers, the C-CAM bass driver surround has also been optimized, now allowing the largest cone surface possible so that the excursion is controlled without overstretching and causing distortion or breaking.

C-CAM Woofers Powered by Efficient, Class-D Amplifiers

Mating its high-linear excursion C-CAM bass drivers with complementary amplifiers, Monitor Audio says a Class-D 250-Watt amplifier powers the Vestra W10, while a 500-Watt Class-D amplifier powers the Vestra W12, and W15 subwoofers.

Furthermore, the Class-D amplifiers enable a myriad of connectivity options, such as unbalanced Stereo RCA, LFE unbalanced RCA inputs, as well as useful DSP preset configuration modes for in-room position optimization and 12-volt trigger options to support the products’ integration into smart home environments.

Other design elements include the Vestra subwoofers cabinets are crafted for both aesthetic elegance and acoustic performance. Built with rigid, reinforced and braced 15mm (0.59-inch) thick MDF, and finished in contemporary black or white vinyl, with painted matte, 21mm (0.82-inch) thick front baffles. The internal bracing ensures stability and enhances sound precision. Each cabinet minimizes unwanted resonance.

Monitor Audio, which is available in the U.S. through its importer, Kevro, adds the W10 and W12 models benefit from fully sealed enclosure, and the larger W15 utilizes a ported design extending low-frequency extension further for maximum bass slam.
