Dynaudio recently established its Custom Installation division with the goal of bringing the company’s technical innovations and uncompromised sound quality to the category of in-wall and in-ceiling loudspeakers. Michael Munch, Dynaudio’s Product Manager – Custom Install, spent time visiting leading integrators to better assess the needs and demands of the market and gauge what aspects were most critical and what issues installers encounter in the field. The feedback gained was instrumental in the development of Dynaudio’s new architectural audio models. According to Munch: “We designed the new Dynaudio Custom range to be as easy as possible to install, simple to understand and flexible enough to tailor to even the most challenging listening environment.”
Founded forty years ago, Dynaudio has always focused on delivering products of impeccable build quality, complete reliability, and excellent sonic performance. Attributes that have made Dynaudio’s exclusive technologies originally developed for its globally acclaimed home hi-fi loudspeakers perfectly suited to professional studio and automotive audio applications. Today, Dynaudio Professional speakers are utilized in major studios all around the world, and Dynaudio is Volkswagen’s partner for the automaker’s premium factory in-car audio systems.
The Studio Series is the first new Custom Install model range from Dynaudio. It is comprised of two round in-ceiling models, the S4-C65 and S4-C80, and two rectangular in-wall models, the S4-W65 and S4-W80. A blank slate design, it was imperative that the drivers for the Studio Series maintain the same quality standards of Dynaudio’s home, professional, and automotive products to ensure that homeowners will enjoy an authentic and immersive listening experience. Thus, the same core materials are employed: specially-coated soft-dome tweeters with powerful neodymium motor systems, and MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) woofers, featuring geometrically optimized one-piece diaphragms and large-diameter, lightweight aluminum voice coils and center magnet systems.

The Studio Series models utilize a patent-pending, two-piece tool-less mounting system. The pre-installation frame simply and rigidly mounts into the speaker cut-out in a matter of seconds via auto-locking clamps, and the speaker unit housing the baffle, drivers and crossover securely mounts into the frame via a locking drop-stop latch system: one click and the speaker assembly is locked and remains securely in place. No tools required.
The rectangular in-wall models can be installed horizontally or vertically, while the round in-ceiling models can also be installed in the walls, thus affording the Studio Series with a high degree of system configuration flexibility.
To simplify achieving the finest possible in room performance and optimized sound directivity into the listening area, Dynaudio designed the in-ceiling models with an 18˚ angled, 360˚ fully rotatable 6.5” (S4-C65) or 8” (S4-C80) mid/bass driver mated to a 1” tweeter with three-position adjustable-tilt and a high-frequency level (+/- 3dB) switch. This allows incredible speaker placement flexibility and is extremely helpful when the locations are less than ideal, as the system’s sound can easily be directed to any part of the room – and even changed without the need to re-position the mounting frame should the room’s furnishings be rearranged.

The large diameter aluminum voice coils of Dynaudio’s drivers offer longer excursion and greater thermal dissipation, allowing higher efficiency and precise control over cone movements – and thus the sound. Powerful magnet materials ensure that excursion is much more controlled and that the drivers follow the signal from the amplifier with a remarkable sense of accuracy and dynamics. The proprietary MSP material combines low mass, high rigidity, and ideal internal damping properties. Formed in a special manufacturing process, the diaphragm’s geometrically optimized shape enables smooth dispersion and excellent off-axis performance. The baffle compound has been similarly optimized to provide greater stiffness and rigidity, and thus more controlled damping to achieve the same level of quality and performance as the MSP cone in this regard.
The Studio Series employs Dynaudio’s soft-dome tweeters, themselves renowned for their undistorted sound and highlighted by a natural, open, clean and clear high frequency reproduction that has earned them their reputation as the world’s best high frequency transducers.

Each Studio Series model features a low-profile slim bezel, with paintable grilles that attach magnetically and offer 100 % product coverage. A round grille is supplied as standard with the in-ceiling models, while square grilles are optionally available for such – with the magnetic attachment enabling them to be positioned as desired to achieve perfect visual alignment in the room.
Dynaudio designed these models to similar dimensions as many other architectural loudspeakers, thus affording dealers an opportunity to easily upgrade existing audio system installations with higher-performance loudspeakers that will fit into the existing cutouts.
Dynaudio fully stands behind its custom installation loudspeakers, offering a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty on each and every model.
